As voters on both sides of the political aisle gear up for the midterm elections this fall, Fox News is sharing a surprising new analysis.

The network unveiled the latest edition of its power rankings this week, which predicted ― for the first time this election cycle ― that Democrats are likely to flip the Republican-controlled House next month.

“Combined with Democrats’ candidate quality improvements and a Republican-led redistricting effort that could fall short of expectations, the House is likely out of reach for the GOP this year,” Fox News contributor Rémy Numa wrote Tuesday, pointing to President Donald Trump’s sinking approval ratings.

The rankings found Democrats favored to win at least 219 House seats, which will secure a narrow majority for the party, while noting that the GOP “should hold on to” at least 198 seats. At present, there are 18 seats that are considered toss-ups.

In addition to a growing distaste for Trump himself, Numa also pointed to gas, diesel and grocery prices being at all-time highs, which has prompted many rural voters to sour on the Republican Party, as driving the current shift.

“The Democratic Party has enjoyed a lead in the House all year,” he wrote. “Now, as another 20 races shift leftward, this forecast sees the Democrats taking control.”

Later, he emphasizes that the Senate “is still a toss-up,” as numerous other polls have found.

Fox News co-anchor John Roberts further discussed the power rankings during a Tuesday evening broadcast while offering his thoughts on what the remainder of Trump’s term will look like if the midterms turned out in line with his network’s latest predictions.

“Democrats will win the House, Republicans will keep the Senate,” he said. “Then we’ve got divided government on Capitol Hill ... investigation after investigation after investigation that goes nowhere because the Senate is controlled by Republicans, and President Trump can’t get much done.”

Though Fox News has historically been known for its MAGA-friendly coverage, the network has been more critical of Trump in recent weeks. Last month, it stood behind rival media outlets CNN, MS NOW and Politico after the president attempted to ban them from the White House.

Peter Navarro, who is one of Trump’s top advisers, recently urged the president’s supporters to boycott Fox News, which he accused of “essentially undermining the Trump administration” as of late.

“Fox is not real news. It is CNN with better lighting, a fake slogan and a flag graphic,” he wrote in the conservative Washington Times. “Stop watching its dangerous drivel.”
