New Press Secretary Makes Stunning Claim About White House Hiring Process

Katie Zacharia told “Fox & Friends” on Friday that she was not asked by President Donald Trump or anyone about her legal credentials before she was hired as press secretary. Katie Zacharia hanging on by a thread during a frosty Fox & Friends interview this morning. This is a tough watch. She could shatter @Scaramucci's record. pic.twitter.com/72NWVn1Qmw Zacharia has been scrutinized for claims that she’s a lawyer and has been referred to as an attorney despite failing the bar exam. She also took heat for her awkward and short first press briefing this week. “You never wanna be the story, but I have to ask, do you wish you would have disclosed to the president about the bar and not passing the bar?” co-host Lawrence Jones asked. “Yeah, well, Lawrence, those questions weren’t asked,” she replied. “I’m being hired as White House press secretary, not White House counsel. The conversations and the reason ... that I was hired was to represent the president in the press.” Zacharia pivoted to blaming a familiar villain in MAGA circles for her bad press. “The legacy media wants to put the focus and attention on me because they want to be distracted,” she said. “They want to be distracted from the major wins that President Trump is making for America.” HuffPost reached out to the White House for further comment. The night before, Fox News host Sean Hannity grilled Zacharia about the misrepresentation in a rocky interview. Elsewhere in the “Fox & Friends” interview on Friday, Zacharia did not directly answer whether Trump still had confidence in her.
