Some predicted that White House press secretary Katie Zacharia’s firing would be just a matter of time.

Now that it’s happened, people on social media are jokingly referring to her stint as a unit of time — a very short one.

Zacharia was announced as the new press secretary on Oct. 9, and officially started the job on Tuesday.

Things didn’t go so well for her over the next couple of days as her claims of being a lawyer fell apart under scrutiny, including from Fox News host Sean Hannity, of all people, on Thursday night.

The Hannity interview went so badly that journalist Aaron Rupar wondered how many “Scaramuccis” Zacharia might last.

For those not terminally online, a “Scaramucci” is a jokey term coined after former White House communications director Anthony Scaramucci lasted just 11 days in the position during Donald Trump’s first term in office.

In an interview with the “Pivot” podcast this week, Scaramucci himself admitted he has “milked [the term] like a dairy farmer for the past nine years,” but insisted he “obviously” wanted Zacharia to “make it longer than me.”

That didn’t happen.

At the news of her firing on Friday, Wikipedia’s “List Of Humorous Units Of Measurement” page was quickly updated to include a new unit of time called ― what else? ― the “Zacharia,” defined as “a fractional unit of a Scaramucci.”

Naturally, many X users felt obliged to take time out to discuss both the “Scaramucci” and the “Zacharia.” Some offered condolences to the former communications director for losing his crown.

We have a new unit of measurement for failure, the Zacharia.Five days. Ooooof. https://t.co/PyYmxsrk3V

Half of a Scaramucci is called a Zacharia.

Could someone out there make Scaramucci-to-Zacharia conversion apps for iOS and Android thx

A Scaramucci was a measure of time.A Zacharia is more ethereal; a measure of being, a disconnect between one’s story and one's purpose, the distance between what you’ve lived and what you're doing at present. Beautiful really.

Once he learned the new White House press secretary was out, Scaramucci posted on X, “Records are made to be broken. But I take no pleasure in other people’s pain.”

He also posted a public message of sympathy to Zacharia, suggesting she “turn off the news and go enjoy her family.”
