Nearly 25 years after Tobey Maguire made his debut in “Spider-Man,” the actor has still proved to be a friendly neighborhood hero. Maguire went viral over the weekend after he officiated his ex-wife Jennifer Meyer’s wedding to billionaire heir, Geoffrey Ogunlesi, at the Four Seasons Resort Lanai in Hawaii on Saturday. The ceremony came weeks after Maguire and Meyer finalized their divorce. In photos shared by TMZ, Maguire appeared in a black suit as he read from a piece of paper while the happy couple shared a kiss at the ceremony. The nuptials were attended by many celebrities, including Leonardo DiCaprio, Kate Hudson, and Jeff Bezos and his wife, Lauren Sánchez Bezos. Maguire quickly went viral on social media over his unique role in his ex’s wedding. “To be fair, this was basically his entire Spiderman storyline,” one X user wrote, referring to Maguire’s Peter Parker liking Mary Jane (played by Kristen Dunst) the entire time she was dating his best friend, Harry Osborn (played by James Franco), in the 2001 “Spider-Man” film. Another person quipped, “That’s one way to make sure you don’t have to pay alimony.” “He’s Peter Parker in real life,” someone else added. Maguire and Meyer first met in 2003 while he was filming the historical sports drama, “Seabiscuit.” The former couple got engaged in 2006 and wed in Hawaii in 2007. Maguire and Meyer, who share two children together, announced their separation in 2016, but their divorce wasn’t finalized until late last month. Meyer and Ogunlesi got engaged in August 2024, and the newlyweds welcomed their first child together earlier this year in May. Meyer opened up to People in May about the close dynamic of her blended family with Maguire, whom she referred to as “the most A+ human being I know.” “When Tobey and I broke up, it was very clear immediately that [our children] Ruby and Otis came first, and we really cared about each other as people, and we wanted to be in each other’s lives no matter what,” she explained. “And we didn’t want to miss a Christmas. We didn’t want to miss a Thanksgiving.” Meyer revealed that both families travel together, and spend all holidays and birthdays together. “[Tobey] is an incredible father. He is an incredible ex-husband. And Geoff loves him and he loves Geoff. And so everything just works,” she added.
