Actor Amanda Seyfried said her days of enjoying the filming of sex scenes are over — at least during this stage in her life. The 40-year-old “Housemaid” star opened up about no longer wanting to deal with intimate on-screen moments during a panel hosted by actor Alec Baldwin at the Hamptons International Film Festival in East Hampton, N.Y., on Oct. 4. News outlets resurfaced her remarks on Monday. “Our jobs are weird,” Seyfried said, per People. “And as I get older, it gets weirder. We have to be romantic with people that we’re not romantic with.” Seyfried said that her comfort with acting out passionate scenes has waned as her career has evolved. “Sometimes it’s great. Sometimes it’s really uncomfortable. But I can’t believe back in the day I was just like, ‘We gotta make out. Great! This is awesome. I know how to make out,’” she said, laughing. Filming sex scenes used to be fun. “It was a non-thing,” Seyfried said. “It was like, ‘I get to make out with a hot person today … And they’re paying me.’” But over time, Seyfried’s stance shifted, to the point that she even turned down a TV role. “I passed on a show where I would have to have sex all the time because of the sex,” she said of the unnamed series. “Doesn’t matter [who it’s with] ... I don’t wanna do it. I’m uncomfortable with it. I’m not into it right now.” Seyfried, who has two children with estranged husband, actor Thomas Sadoski, also noted that her kids were paying more attention to what she does. However, she’s not entirely closing the door to sex or nude scenes. “Maybe if [the project] came along again [at a later point], maybe I’d be in a different space. But I don’t wanna deal with being naked with a stranger,” she said. Several other celebrities, including Julia Roberts and Penn Badgley, have also publicly expressed their decision to avoid filming sex or nude scenes. Badgley, 39, shared on his “Podcrushed” podcast in February 2023 that he preferred not to film sex scenes for the Netflix show “You” because “fidelity in my — in every relationship, and especially my marriage — is important to me. And yeah, it just got to a point where I don’t want to do that.” By entering your email and clicking Sign Up, you're agreeing to let us send you customized marketing messages about us and our advertising partners.
