Trump Loses It Over NYT Photo Of His 'Beautiful' Golf Club: 'They're Going TO HELL'

President Donald Trump raged against The New York Times on Monday, accusing the newspaper of deceptively editing a photograph of his “beautiful” golf resort in Doral, Florida. “Think of it, The New York Times DOCTORED the picture of the beautiful exterior facade of Doral, in Miami, trying to make it look as bad as possible,” Trump wrote in a late-night post to his Truth Social platform. The source of Trump’s rage? A picture, taken by Florida-based independent photographer Scott McIntyre, of the clubhouse at Trump National Doral Miami that shows noticeably darker, dirtier spots on the facade of the clubhouse. The snap is featured in a Times story by White House correspondent Peter Baker on Trump’s move to bring the G20 summit to the golf resort in December. “These people are STONE COLD LOSERS — Totally dishonest. That’s why they’re going TO HELL, and their subscription numbers are way down!” Trump wrote of the Times. A spokesperson for the Times, in an emailed statement to HuffPost, said the image was “not doctored” and was taken in 2020. The president’s plans to host world leaders at the resort during his first term got pushback from his own party at the time (not so much this time around). On Monday, Trump attached McIntyre’s photo to the post and put it side by side with an image — taken from a higher angle and seen on the Trump Organization’s landing page for the golf resort — that depicts a whiter, largely dirt-free clubhouse facade. “Where Style And Luxury Meet Miami’s Most Legendary Golf Resort,” reads a line of text under the image from Doral, which is home to a 15-foot golden statue made in the president’s image. Several videos, shared by the golf resort’s own social media pages, suggest Trump’s talk of the pristine facade doesn’t comport with reality. A number of clips show what appear to be darker portions of the facade — some of which are more apparent than others — close to the roof of the clubhouse. McIntyre’s image of the clubhouse also isn’t far off visually from one taken by Getty photographer Cliff Hawkins in advance of a LIV Golf tournament at the golf resort in 2023. In Hawkins’ photos, parts of the facade also appear dirtier and darker than that of the pic featured on the Trump website. Trump, who referred to the golf resort as “one of the finest and most successful” in the world in another post, claimed that the facade had been “blackened and denigrated” by the Times to make it look “shoddy, filthy, and just plain BAD.” “They want World Leaders to see this, knowing it is not the ‘TRUMP’ way,” continued Trump, referring to the G20 summit. “The actual facade looks like the second picture posted, rather than the one doctored by The Times,” he added.
