‘I Did Not Know!’: Jon Stewart Stunned By ‘True’ Trump Rally Confession

“Daily Show” host Jon Stewart on Monday took an extended look at the rise of artificial intelligence and the likelihood that it could end humanity – or at least steal everyone’s jobs. Leaders of some of the nation’s biggest tech firms met with President Donald Trump at the White House last week to discuss placing guardrails on the industry. “You know that Trump is gonna bring the heat,” Stewart said, and the audience laughed. “Don’t be cynical,” Stewart said. “He’s gonna bring the heat. Trump has been very clear what he thinks about these Silicon Valley elites.” Stewart rolled footage of Trump over the years insulting tech leaders, calling them “tyrants,” “crooked” and “totally dishonest,” and accusing them of “destroying our country.” He also played several clips of Trump calling Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg a “weirdo.” “I gotta say, I did not know Trump said true stuff at his rallies,” Stewart snarked. “You know, I’ve been too hard on him.” But of course, all that rhetoric vanished when the industry leaders came to the White House, and Trump made a deal essentially allowing them to regulate AI themselves, at least for now. Stewart examined what that could mean for us humans in his “Daily Show” monologue ― complete with an unexpected visit from an AI mascot: By entering your email and clicking Sign Up, you're agreeing to let us send you customized marketing messages about us and our advertising partners.
