Patrick Clancy said he had a “massive traumatic panic attack” and was put in an ambulance before the 911 call was played during his second day of testimony.

“We did take a break right before they played the 911 call, which I knew was gonna be just horrific,” Clancy said during his “60 Minutes” interview that aired Sunday. “And I went to a back room, and I started having this massive traumatic panic attack. My heart was pounding. And they put me in an ambulance; they offered me some medication, but I said, ’I don’t want it, ‘cause I want to go back and I want to finish this so I can be done with this.’ And I went back, and I finished the testimony.”

The 911 call Clancy made after finding his dead children in the basement was only played in the courtroom, so people watching the trial on TV didn’t hear it. One juror said she “will never be the same” after hearing the heart-wrenching call.

Clancy testified a few weeks ago in the trial of his ex-wife, Lindsay Clancy, the Massachusetts woman who killed their three kids in 2023. Lindsay Clancy’s defense argued she was suffering from postpartum psychosis when she killed her children and shouldn’t be held criminally responsible, while the prosecution said she killed them deliberately and knew right from wrong when she did it. After seven days of deliberations, the jury was hung and the case ended in a mistrial.

Richie Morganstern, a CourtTV reporter, said it was a great idea that the public didn’t hear the 911 call because of how hard it was to hear.

“You knew [Patrick Clancy] wanted to save them, but at the same time, you could just hear how he was just falling apart,” Morganstern said.

He said some jury members had tears running down their face. Patrick Clancy did not stay in the courtroom while the call was played, but his ex-wife did. She held the hand of her defense attorney, Kevin Reddington, as she broke down in sobs.

Patrick Clancy’s “60 Minutes” interview was the first he’s given since the trial ended. He also addressed the conspiracy theories that suggest he actually killed the kids.

“It’s deeply harmful to the legacy of my children,” he said. “It is a huge distraction from what really matters here, which is perinatal mental health. And it’s done real harm to real people, myself included but also others.”

Patrick Clancy has since remarried. He was joined by his wife, Rachel Danis, during the interview who said the two are starting a family.
