JD Vance’s attempt to differentiate Democrats from the GOP at the Republican midterm convention quickly backfired.

“The contrast in this election, ladies and gentlemen, is not about this or that policy,” the vice president declared during a lengthy speech in Dallas on Thursday.

Instead, he boiled the choice down to something much more basic.

“It is about the party of common sense beating the party of the crazies,” he claimed, before urging: “Let’s send these lunatics packing and govern the country for the future.”

Critics immediately suggested Vance take a closer look at his own party.

@VP yes it is. You just don't realize that you're the crazies. https://t.co/lX6AhcFf3v

Here's when their dictionary doesn't even have the same words in it as the rest of us https://t.co/DFkXo7TjIL

Wait! Can Vance just do that? Swap parties mid term? Can't Trump just fire him when he hears JD wants to send him and his loonies "packing"?

You’re exactly right. But not in the way you think https://t.co/bvhhi5mJSs

The pot calling the kettle black. The crazies are the Republican administration. Not since 1936 Germany has the west seen such a mess created by this American administration.

Once again, he has the right words but he uses them backwards

These people project and project and project, unironically. I mean what the fuck is Rudy Giuliani? RFK Jr.? Roger Stone? Mike Lindell? Trump himself? They're all fucking lunatics. https://t.co/jZIKyuto1X

Why are they making campaign ads for the Democrats at this thing?

The message is one multiple Republican leaders have been promoting in the lead-up to the midterm elections.
