Sean Duffy’s wife suggested that President Donald Trump appointed him as transportation secretary because it was the only remaining job. (Watch the video below.) Fox News host Rachel Campos-Duffy made the apparent revelation on Katie Miller’s podcast that dropped Tuesday. “He wanted to serve the president in any way,” Campos-Duffy said. “He ended up in transportation ... because that was all that’s left.” Sean Duffy talked over his spouse in the joint interview while defending Trump’s nomination: “But the president told me — and I believe this with him — he said, ‘If I wasn’t the president, I would pick the Department of Transportation of any department. It’s the best department. I’m gonna give it to you,’ because he’s a builder, and whether it’s roads and bridges, like he’s talking about concrete and bridges and designs and colors, and he loves aviation so that — we have a president who cares about the infrastructure of America. Usually, presidents don’t give a sh — darn.” “He did say, ‘Don’t F it up,’” Campos-Duffy added with a laugh. Job experience didn’t come up in the exchange. Duffy has previously been a Fox Business host, congressman, reality show star and lumberjack competitor. Lately, the secretary has been catching flak for his travel reality series “The Great American Road Trip” with Campos-Duffy and their nine children. The New York Times’ TV critic said it was like “watching a Cabinet member Kardashianize his family while vacationing on the corporate dime.” John Oliver took issue with Duffy’s insistence that the show didn’t pose a conflict of interest even though his department oversees some sponsors. Duffy also made news with retrograde comments about his daughter Paloma possibly being accepted to Harvard. “They have professionalized figuring out how they can take good young girls like you and, I think, corrupt their minds,” he said.
