The cause of death for British actor Tim Curry has been revealed a week after he died. The “Rocky Horror Picture Show” star died of coronary artery disease, according to documents from the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health that were obtained by People. Curry’s history of stroke and kidney cancer were listed as contributing factors to his death. According to People, the document also notes that Curry hadn’t undergone any surgeries for those aforementioned conditions. Curry died Aug. 25 at his home in the Toluca Lake neighborhood of Los Angeles. He was 80. The horror icon’s death came more than a decade after he suffered a near-fatal stroke in 2012, in which he had to undergo emergency brain surgery. The stroke left him partially paralyzed on the left side of his body, leading to his use of a wheelchair. Curry opened up about his recovery from the stroke at a 50th anniversary screening of “Rocky Horror Picture Show” in September 2025. “I still can’t walk, which is why I’m in this silly chair, and that’s very limiting,” he said at the time. “So I won’t be singing and I won’t be dancing very soon. I still have real problems with my left leg.” A month later, Curry told CBS News in an interview that he didn’t fear death. “I try to avoid it, as I think we all do! But I suspect that in the end, I will welcome it. Well, I think it may be very comforting to go bye-bye — and I want to earn it!” By entering your email and clicking Sign Up, you're agreeing to let us send you customized marketing messages about us and our advertising partners.
