Maggie Haberman Gives Eye-Popping Report On Secret Service Reaction To Natalie Harp Letters

Maggie Haberman of The New York Times said Thursday the Secret Service was “alarmed” by Natalie Harp’s fawning letters to Donald Trump during his last campaign, suggesting the concern is now heightened because he’s president. “Harp has carved out this role of being incredibly devoted to the president,” Haberman, whose book with Jonathan Swan revealed details of Harp and Trump’s bond, said on CNN’s “The Source” Thursday. “She had left these letters for him in his personal spaces during the interregnum for years. The Secret Service had gotten alarmed by some of them. ... While that was notable, that was a campaign. That was different. She is now in the government. She sits 10 feet away from the president. She is a stream of information to him. He does rely on her. And I don’t expect that to change.” A new report has emerged that their bond might be too close for comfort ― as least as far as security is concerned. Harp worked in close quarters with the president at the White House for nearly a year while refusing to undergo routine security clearance, according to MS NOW. She finally began to complete the process when Trump intervened, the network wrote. Scrutiny over the bond between Trump and Harp, his executive assistant and constant companion, increased again as The Daily Beast released two intimate notes she sent to him. In one she gushed with near cult-like devotion: “I never want to bring you anything but joy. I’m sorry I lost my focus. You are all that matters to me. I don’t want to ever let you down. Thank you for being my Guardian and Protector in this Life.” The fangirling aside, Haberman told host Boris Sanchez on “The Source” that Harp’s presence has created issues in the White House fold. “Most of her colleagues have been uneasy with her for some time,” Haberman said. “She is representative of how different this term is from term one, because this is the kind of aide who will just give him quick, unfiltered information, connect him to other people, is present there, and basically spends most of her waking hours trying to work for him and get him what he wants.” She added that dissension is also “a hallmark of any world Trump has ever been involved in and run that people fight and dislike each other.” By entering your email and clicking Sign Up, you're agreeing to let us send you customized marketing messages about us and our advertising partners.
