Bill Maher Goes Full Rom-Com On Reality Villain Running For LA Mayor

By the end of a chummy interview on Monday’s episode of the “Club Random” podcast, comedian Bill Maher seemed smitten with reality TV star Spencer Pratt, the insurgent candidate for Los Angeles mayor. The pair spent an hour bonding over their gripes about taxes, unhoused Angelenos, the city’s nightlife and Mayor Karen Bass, before a clearly charmed Maher dropped one of the most iconic lines in rom-com history on his guest. “You had me at ‘hello,’” Maher said, quoting the romantic climax of the 1996 Tom Cruise/Renée Zellweger classic, “Jerry Maguire.” “You have the exact right impatience with this shit,” concluded Maher. “It’s very authentic.” Maher also said he thought Pratt was on track to triumph on Tuesday. “Just keep doing what you’re doing, we’ll see where the chips fall,” he said. Pratt has openly admitted to playing up his unpleasant side and stoking conflict to capitalize on being the central villain in MTV’s seminal unscripted series, “The Hills.” But he was clearly trying to put on a charm offensive on the eve of the mayor’s race, which he told Maher he was all but destined to win. Meanwhile, Bass pitched herself as the only sensible choice during a stop by the L.A. landmark, Pann’s Restaurant. “A reality star with no track record? I’m not sure he’s ever had a job other than reality TV,” she told TMZ. “I know he has no idea how the city government is run.” By entering your email and clicking Sign Up, you're agreeing to let us send you customized marketing messages about us and our advertising partners.
