President Donald Trump on Sunday took a bizarre victory lap on Fox News, claiming that his wild comments about Sen. Jon Husted’s (R-Ohio) ass helped the Republican as he and his rump enter the final stretch of the campaign trail.

“He went up 14 points or something,” said Trump, who made a similarly baseless claim at a rally where he repeated his body examination bit last week.

“And that was my rally. That was when I said, you know the word, the A-word. And everyone said, ‘Oh, why is he talking about that?’ You know they didn’t put the whole clip because they just —,” continued the president before pivoting to his story about the time he “studied” Husted’s body.

“I looked at his body, I said, ‘Look at this strength in this guy. This is crazy.’ And they said, ‘What, why is he doing it?’ You know, the fake news, they said, ‘Why?’ — all they had to do was hang out for another 30 seconds and they would’ve learned.”

“But you know it had a tremendous impact.”

There, of course, appears to be no evidence to support Trump’s polling boost claim, with ex-Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio) leading Husted in a majority of recent polls on the U.S. Senate race.

Husted — a former NCAA Division III football player who won the 1989 championship with the University of Dayton — told Fox News’ Aishah Hasnie on Saturday that he’s used the ass praise as motivation, prompting him to tell his wife that he’s got to “get down to the gym and keep up my reputation.”
