Lawrence O'Donnell Spots Latest Sign Of Trump's Deterioration: 'This Is Utter Insanity'

MS NOW host Lawrence O’Donnell on Monday called on Vice President JD Vance to invoke the 25th Amendment and remove Donald Trump from power, calling the president’s recent comments “utter insanity.” “This is not AI,” O’Donnell said. “This is really the current president of the United States.” O’Donnell teased Trump, “who started the most quickly unpopular war in American history — and has driven up home mortgage rates, car loan interest rates, the price of gas, the price of diesel fuel and inflation on all prices generally — has found a new angle to campaign on.” The “Last Word” host went on to play footage of Trump saying of U.S. Sen. Jon Husted of Ohio while stumping for a different race in Kentucky on Saturday: “I examined his ass, and then I looked at his shoulders. I looked at his feet, I looked at his hand. I looked at his jawline, studying.” Trump added at the time that he is “still recovering” after feeling Husted’s hard shoulder. The president made similar comments while campaigning with Husted in Ohio earlier last week. “This is madness,” O’Donnell said Monday. “This is utter insanity. Yes, it’s silly, and yes, it’s easy to joke about, and it will be joked about forever, but it is also presidential madness. The man is president of the United States. He does not seem to know that, at times.” O’Donnell said the Cabinet and Vance should invoke the 25th Amendment to remove Trump, which would surely see the president appeal to Congress — and argue against Vance becoming his replacement before explaining that baffling Saturday rant. “And Donald Trump might convincingly testify to Congress, ‘Ah, it was just a joke. It’s just me having fun,’” he said. “But while he’s defending himself on that, members of Congress could ask Donald Trump about all his other demonstrations and proofs that he is unfit for office.” One recent example O’Donnell cited was Trump agreeing to purchase diesel fuel from Russian President Vladimir Putin, who is still invading U.S. ally Ukraine and reportedly aiding Iran amid Trump’s admittedly unpopular war of choice against the Middle East nation. O’Donnell argued that the Russia deal would be considered treason for “siding with the enemy” if Trump had actually obtained a declaration of war against Iran, but noted the Supreme Court has seemed to require the U.S. to formally declare war, which it hasn’t done since World War II, before actions can be legally considered treason. The MS NOW host argued Trump deserves to be impeached or “removed through the 25th Amendment,” nonetheless, for his “astonishingly unprecedented levels of corruption and repeatedly acting against the interests of the United States.” “Now, remember, they promised to lower prices on day one,” O’Donnell said. “Instead, under the failed President Donald J. Trump, it costs more than ever in American history to fill up your truck, stock your fridge, visit the doctor or power your home.” He continued, “And so that’s how lost Donald Trump is in these final two weeks of the campaign — he’s talking about his candidate’s ass. That’s how lost the Republican Party is.” Watch the full “Last Word” segment on MS NOW’s YouTube account.
