On Tuesday, The Wall Street Journal published a report about Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent that describes his temperament as being pretty similar to his boss, President Donald Trump. And by that, we mean he throws a lot of tamper tantrums.

One of the more shocking details in the report involves Bessent’s explosive behavior at a Washington, D.C., restaurant in December 2025.

At the time, members of the activist group CodePink heckled Bessent while he was eating. In footage published on Facebook by a Dallas news station at the time, CodePink DC organizer Olivia DiNucci could be heard interrupting diners’ meals in order to give Bessent a very sarcastic toast.

“So let’s give it up for the man who is eating in peace as people starve across the world based on his sanctions, which are economic warfare,” DiNucci says.

In response, Bessent can be heard calling DiNucci “ignorant” before getting up to complain to staff and stomp around the restaurant angrily.

The Journal added that Bessent “erupted” at the restaurant’s owner for not removing the protesters. According to the owner and an eyewitness, “Bessent spit in his own food before leaving” — presumably in a huff.

Last year, the treasury secretary also hurled his daily briefing book at the wall because he was upset about the way the binder was organized, people familiar with the matter told the Journal.

Bessent denied the account.

This is not the first time a report about Bessent’s short fuse has made headlines. In September 2025, he repeatedly threatened to beat up Trump-appointed housing official Bill Pulte at a MAGA dinner, according to a report by Politico.

“I’m gonna punch you in your fucking face,” Bessent reportedly told Pulte.
