Michael Douglas Asks Ana Navarro Why She Remains A Republican. She Answers.

Movie legend Michael Douglas halted the gossip for a moment to talk politics Tuesday with co-host Ana Navarro on “The View.” Just after explaining why he revealed a relationship with “Romancing the Stone” co-star Kathleen Turner in his new book, Douglas pivoted hard. “I have to ask you something,” he told Navarro. “I’ve admired you now so much for the last couple of years … but why aren’t you independent? How can you still be a Republican?” Applause and laughter greeted his surprising query. “I’ll tell you why, because I live in Florida where the primaries are closed, and I want to be able to vote in the primaries and vote against those sons of bitches,” Navarro said. “Make a difference in the primaries.” Navarro, a former Republican strategist, has criticized President Donald Trump and his orbit on the show and on CNN, where she sometimes spars with GOP heel Scott Jennings. Navarro told Entertainment Weekly last week that she didn’t know if she’d ever change affiliations. She appeared to regret a period as a “Republican hack” who would “regurgitate the same party lines that everybody else regurgitated on TV.” As for flak from some conservatives that she isn’t a true Republican, Navarro, who supported Democrat Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential election, snapped back to EW: “I’d argue that anybody who espouses the same views as Donald Trump isn’t much of a traditional Republican. I’m not going to be lectured to about what a Republican is or isn’t.” By entering your email and clicking Sign Up, you're agreeing to let us send you customized marketing messages about us and our advertising partners.
