I am a contributor who has been writing for BuzzFeed Shopping for two years, with a focus on products that make parenting just a bit easier — and hopefully more fun — home decor, kitchen gadgets, and whatever deals I can scope out. Promising reviews: "I purchased this book as a classroom teacher to use with my students that are learning to use scissors. This book was perfect. It moves through the stages of cutting and provides a variety of cutting experiences. It has students work on cutting straight lines, then simple shapes, and then more complex shapes. The students all loved the variety and increased their skills. I highly recommend this for anyone looking to support a child with cutting practice." —Amazon Customer Get it from Amazon for $3.99 (also available in a spiral-bound version). Promising review: "I used these animals in the sensory bin along with some small, pale beads. We were studying wild and zoo animals, and the students loved identifying them and then burying them under the beads! The toys are a great size for this activity." —Penny Trammell We've been a dot paint family since my oldest was a tiny toddler. Although they're not 100 percent mess-free for little ones, they certainly are now. Both of my kids still love bringing them out for some self-regulated art time — almost seven years strong with the same pack! Promising reviews: "I am a teacher and parent. These are BY FAR the very best brands I’ve ever used! Durable and easy to use. Love this item! Stop reading reviews and buy this brand always!!!" —BubbleGum "These dot markers have become a staple in my house for our creative arts and craft time. I love their simplicity! To clean up, we just put the cap back on, which prevents the marker from drying out, and store it in the packaging. No need to refill with paint or rinse out dirty paint brushes. Because it’s a marker, you don’t need to purchase extra items like brushes. They allow my toddler to create art easily and without extra anxiety from making a mess. But I know that they are washable, so if any mess were to happen, I know I can just wipe it away with a tablecloth!" —Jose Get a set of four markers from Amazon for $14.99+ (also available in sets of five, and six, and in four versions). Promising reviews: "Purchased for my first-grade class and the children love them, so I'm ordering a second set. The magnets are strong, so they stick together well. The kids enjoy making many objects with different color combinations, creating lots of fun play." —Gerri Hawes Get a set of 42 from Amazon for $19.99+ (also available in a set of 72). Promising review: "These are awesome! Literally paint with a stick without the mess. They are so vibrant on paper, too, and dry instantly! My 3-year-old has loved them since she was 2 to create pictures without the mess and stress. I am a kindergarten teacher and use them in my classroom, too. They are a lifesaver for quick art supplies and no mess. Must have if your kids like to create!" —Cassandra Johnson Get a set of six from Amazon for $8.95+ (available in four versions, and also in 12- and 24-packs). Promising reviews: "My class loves to play this at the end of the day. It's also great for a center activity or a rainy day activity." —Kathleen "I purchased this for my first grader, who was learning how to read and recognize sight words. My third-grader also participated, and we had fun while helping his brother and keeping him updated on these basic words. I definitely recommend. My son was also excited that one of his teachers had the same game in her classroom." —Bamapeach Promising review: "As an elementary special education teacher, these finger highlighters worked great with my students, and they were excited to use them!" —Jennifer Get a six-pack from Amazon for $17.49 (also available in a 24-pack). Promising reviews: "I am a high school math teacher — I can't keep this away from my students. My own children, ages 5, 7, and 10, love it as well. Buy more than one — wish that I had!" —I need a new one "This was a 10/10 stocking stuffer this past Christmas. Our entire household (ranging in age from 3 to 35) loves this game. There's a great little booklet that comes with puzzles and solutions, but it's also fun to throw just one piece inside, shake it, open it, and then try to make all the pieces fit without moving the original piece. Will be keeping a few of these games on hand for gifts!" —Melissa N Get it from Amazon for $9.99 (also available in a two-pack). Promising reviews: "We LOVE this microscope for our classroom (Pre K, 4-year-olds). The magnification is similar to that of a magnifying glass, but the two-eye viewer and focus knob allow students a different experience that a magnifying glass cannot provide. I personally love that it is easy to clean, easy to store, and pretty durable! Highly recommend this product." —Courtney "I ordered this microscope for my three children (ages 1-6). They LOVE it! It is easy enough that my 1-year-old can use it, but interesting enough to keep my 6-year-old engaged. My children are always bringing in nature items to look at under the microscope. My son found a cicada shell and brought it in to look at. He was so delighted to discover that there were little hairs on the cicada's legs! I was very impressed as well! The light gives a little extra help to see the details. We have had it for about 6 months now, and it has held up beautifully. I could not be more pleased with my purchase." —Julie Promising reviews: "As a teacher, I love using these to support reading and writing. The 8.5-inch screens are perfect for young kids to practice letters, numbers, and words. The vibrant colors engage students, and the one-touch erase feature makes them easy to reuse for various activities. They’re ideal for handwriting practice, spelling games, and creative exercises. Lightweight, durable, and fun, these tablets are an excellent educational tool for both the classroom and at home!" —Carla "This is something my kids have been using nonstop since I got them, and I don’t have to keep running to the store to get paper all the time and have a bunch of papers all over the house." —Samantha Get a four-pack from Amazon for $9.99+ (available in four colors). Promising review: "Best bandages. As a teacher, I use these in my classroom, and they stay on all day. The kids really love the designs." —Valerie Steen "These are great! The designs are so fun, and they stay on through everything. Whether your child (or you!) is playing in the dirt, mud, or water, these bandages aren't coming off. I love the tin that they come in, and the actual packaging for the bandages is super easy to open. I recommend these to everyone!" —Raine Smith Promising reviews: "We have a 'class store,' and the register works great. It's a great way to teach money." —gigton staple "Kids love this cash register! They love pretending to buy and sell and handling both dollars and coins. It provides hours of pretend play. Highly recommend!" —C Williams Get it from Amazon for $27.99+ (available in two colors). I'm not sure my oldest child — time-blind to an extreme — could function without this clock. She can tell time now, but she'll ignore the time without a visual cue that time is up. It helps us make sure she goes to bed on time after reading, and the firm boundary is an easy one for everyone to understand. We have been using this exact timer for several years now, and it has kept us from struggling through any and all transitions to *mostly* happily expecting them. Promising reviews: "I teach and use this timer with the small groups that I work with so that I stay on time. I, myself, have ADHD and so needed a timer that is visually appealing but also quiet. I don't notice any ticking with this timer, and I love that it has a light that flashes rather than an alarm sound, and that you can choose the duration of the flash — three seconds or 30 seconds. The rainbow and cloud visuals help me and my students stay on task and keep track of time. I definitely recommend this timer to teachers or paraprofessionals who may be looking for a timer to use with their groups." —Andrea Jane "This timer has been a total game changer for our family! My kids actually enjoy cleaning up and transitioning between activities now. The bright colors, fun sounds, and simple design make it easy for them to use on their own. It’s helped reduce arguments and meltdowns—plus, it’s teaching them time management in a way that’s fun and age-appropriate. Highly recommend for any parent looking to add a little structure with a lot less stress!" —Denis Sol Get it from Amazon for $15.99+ (available in 10 colors). These have been a staple with my kids for a few years. One of my children has sensory struggles, and the overwhelmed meltdowns were intense. Simple directions for when to breathe were a game changer for helping her to take those calming breaths in. Promising reviews: "As a preschool teacher, I needed something calming for students that also kept their attention. These are perfect. Highly recommend — can be used for a range of ages and situations. Love them!" —J B. "Great quality! Very happy with this. Our child has been using it regularly for more than a year already. Works great for breathing exercises and calming down — for both children and grown-ups." —Irina Kurkina Get three boards from Amazon for $10.54+ (available in plastic or wood). Promising review: "This stuffed animal has lasted two years (and still going!) in a kindergarten classroom where he's handled all day by five-year-olds, all school year! I'm a kindergarten teacher, and I use this stuffed animal as a calming device when kids are stressed or sad. He hangs out the most in our 'calming corner,' but sometimes also sits with them at their tables. They love him (we named ours Cookie), and they use him as often as I let them. Sometimes Cookie has to 'take a nap' because he is a little distracting from our whole-group learning activities when the kids are fighting over him or cuddling with him. But in all seriousness, I cannot believe this has lasted two school years — the way the kids handle it isn't always gentle (to say the least!). They definitely prefer him over our other (non-weighted) classroom stuffed animal (also a dog). If I could give it 10 stars, I would." —Matt Get it from Amazon for $32.99+ (available in five animal designs). Promising review: "My class loves these sensory fidgets!!!" —ginny kiepper Get it from Amazon for $14.99+ (available in two sizes). Promising reviews: "This is a great puzzle for a few different areas. 1) You can work on letter recognition. 2) You can work on small motor skills of picking up and rotating the pieces to fit into the words. It also has the sight words portion, with the word in front of them and a photo of the word. As a preschool teacher, this is a great gift for any younger child, as it can be beneficial to different ages." —Julie "Our little one has spent hours upon hours playing with this puzzle. As a stay-at-home mom, I love all the different skills we can work on with this activity — colors, letters, sounds, words — you name it! So many different cognitive learning opportunities. The pieces are very durable and well-crafted. They all fit perfectly into the puzzle and are easy to use! The value is absolutely worth it considering all the different learning opportunities this cute activity holds!" —Jillian and Ry's Reviews Get it from Amazon for $19.49+ (also available in Spanish). Promising review: "I’m a special education teacher, many kiddos benefit from this product, it helps with fine motor skills and eye-hand coordination. My students enjoy playing with it during downtime and do not realize that it is a teaching tool." —Marcy Udell Get a set of nine from Amazon for $9.99+ (available in 15 different sets). Promising review: "So, I used this in my preschool class, and it was all the rage! Teachers were so impressed with how compact yet organized it looked. Success!" —Amazon Customer Get a pack of four from Amazon for $24.99 (also available in packs of eight and 10). Promising review: "These storage bags are huge! I love that they come with labels, so everything stays organized. The material is thick and durable, and the clear window makes it easy to see what’s inside. I use them to organize my materials in my kindergarten classroom. Teacher win!" —lbrock Get a set of six from Amazon for $25.98+ (available in three sizes, combo packs, and four colors). Promising reviews: "Bought this for my classroom. Students can pick up manipulatives and return them easily." —C. Martin "Very cute and colorful way to put toys away. My kid is in her 'pull everything out' phase, so it’s nice to have something where I can just put things into bins, because things just aren't going to be organized at this point. I also love that it comes with anchors and instructions to anchor it to the wall. I’m glad I didn’t buy it beforehand, before I got the product. Very happy with this product!" —Vrancken Get it from Amazon for $55.99+ (available in 13 colors). Promising reviews: "I'm a teacher, so seeing this made me excited, and I had to buy it! Love how it is organized in a caddy and has a sharpener. This is definitely the ultimate crayon collection!" —Faye "I love it because it keeps all the crayons organized. Also comes with a sharpener. Lots of colors that they really like. Crayons are best for a little older kids, so they don't get broken. Great price! Kids love to draw for hours and find it fun to use. I like the design of the caddy, which can also hold pencils and markers, as well as paint brushes for water coloring." —Marie Ramsay This is a parenting must-have for me. Art supplies tend to turn into an absolute explosion, and I was having trouble keeping everything organized. Once I put everything on a tiered cart, so much stress melted away. A few years later, and I keep crayons, colored pencils, markers, paper, and clipboards on the top tier — aka everything we need for homework — coloring books on tier two, and sensory toys on tier three. It's officially turned into the homework cart, and I recommend it tenfold to my old system of random crayons in couch cushions. Promising reviews: "I use this for my teaching materials, and it's great!! Easy to roll, sturdy, and holds a lot. I even have timers magnetized to the side of the cart." —Wife-Teacher-Crafter-Cook "I love this for a place to store my kids’ art supplies — I’ve added a rotating pencil/crayon caddy and clear plastic bins with stamps, paints, brushes, stickers, etc. I wanted an all-metal cart (a lot of other options have a metal frame, but the baskets are plastic) so I could stick magnetic spice tins on the side to store glitter and pom-poms. I also used Command strips to attach a paper dispenser on the side." —Kat Get it from Amazon for $37.97 (available in 11 colors). Promising review: "As a preschool teacher, I noticed that all kids seem to love stamping. This is twice as nice — stamping and learning. The stamps are the perfect size for little hands and are well-made. The stamp pad has all four colors in one container. This is the only thing I would change. The kids like to use all four colors at the same time, and it dirties the light colors. Still a great buy!" —Lisa Arcos Get a set with 56 stamps from Amazon for $24.78. Promising review: "Lightweight and not crackly. I teach preschool (I have for 27 years), and I know the children don't like the crackly material. These sleeves are great, more practical than the apron-style smocks, because children often reach across their painting and get their sleeves well decorated too." —J. A. Dudley Get it from Amazon for $4.99+ (also available in packs of two, four, and six and in five colors). Promising review: "I'm a teacher and use them at home and in class. The kids like to use them too, especially the ones that can't sit still!" —Tallgor Get it from Amazon for $18.99 (available in five colors). Promising review: "Great value for this frugal teacher! My middle school students have used these for fun, to learn parts of speech, and to create haikus and other poems. I have the kids use sanitizer to keep the items relatively germ-free, and they can sort them by color easily. Would recommend for any classroom or homeschool!" —Aasztalos212 Get a pack of 632 from Amazon for $35.99. * If You’re A Frustrated Parent, Take A Deep Breath, Then See If Any Of These 33 Products Can Help You Out * Parenting Products That’ll Help You Survive Back To School Season * Storage Products That Parents With Multiple Kids Swear By * If You Live With Stinky And Messy Kids And Pets, Keep Your Home Clean And Smelling Great Thanks To These 27 Finds * Products Parents Consider *Lifesavers* For Traveling With Kids Plus, next-level school supplies and finds from Target, Walmart, and Wayfair.
