Emmy Rossum is opening up about why it was “quite tricky” to date while she starred on the hit Showtime series “Shameless.”

“It made dating quite tricky because of the nudity on the show,” she said during an appearance on Maria Sharapova’s podcast, “Pretty Tough.” “All of the guys that I would go out with had preconceived notions of who I was or how I was sexually. It was totally bizarre.”

She shared that she had one conversation with a potential suitor, who was in real estate “or something,” but told her, “I really want to be president some day.”

“And I was like, ‘Wow, that’s like a great goal,’” she said, before the conversation took a turn. “He’s like, ‘But I feel like running for office dating someone, you know, who’s been exposed in the way that you have, do you think that would be tricky for me?’ And I was like, ‘This is an insane conversation to have.’”

Rossum added that the two were clearly “not meant to be together.”

“So, I think growing up in your 20s, you’re dating, you’re trying to figure out who you are, you’re coming into your own as an artist,” she said of navigating her personal and professional life.

“And there’s also all these preconceived notions about you that are out there that are associated with [you] because your body is your art, right? And people can get confused. And so that certainly came up for me,” she added.

Rossum spent nine years on “Shameless” before exiting in 2018.

The actor recently shared that she left the show “with a lot of grief and sorrow” because she “loved the job,” but ultimately wanted to pursue her own projects.

“I left to go make the show I had been developing, that our [“Shameless”] showrunner John Wells had encouraged me to kind of get in the driver’s seat of my own career and make my own shows and make things,” Rossum said during an appearance on “Call Her Daddy” in July.
