CNN panelist Leigh McGowan, a.k.a. the “PoliticsGirl,” went after President Donald Trump over his warm reception of China’s communist leader Xi Jinping during a state dinner at the White House on Thursday.

“What I hear from the Republican Party... all the time is the horrors of communism, that the Democrats are communists and communists are ruining America and communism is the biggest threat America has to face,” she said in an appearance on Friday’s edition of “CNN NewsNight With Abby Phillip.”

“And then I watch the red carpet be rolled out for the biggest communist dictator in the world, who is currently funding the destruction of our own bases in an active war zone,” added McGowan, referencing reports that China is helping Iran target U.S. service members overseas.

Trump — who frequently uses “communist” as an insult to his opponents and recently vowed that the U.S. will “never be a communist country” in a taxpayer-funded ad — literally rolled out the red carpet for the leader of the world’s biggest communist state upon his arrival at Joint Base Andrews on Thursday.

The president and first lady Melania Trump then hosted Xi and his wife, Peng Liyuan, for a state dinner at the White House, where they were joined by scores of politicians and tech giants.

Trump, who once bashed his predecessor Barack Obama’s state dinners with Xi, later described the visit as “tremendous.”

McGowan highlighted that part of the visit included Trump’s White House show-and-tell with Xi.

“It was all buddy-buddy,” she said.

McGowan continued by knocking Fox News personalities’ fixation on “communism” while alluding to several of the network’s hosts attending the red carpet affair on Thursday.

GOP lawmakers and conservative Supreme Court justices, she noted, also dropped by the event.

“That is telling us a totally different story than ‘they didn’t make a deal on AI,’” said McGowan on Friday (before China announced it had agreed to start a dialogue with the U.S. on AI).

“It’s, ‘Why are we hosting the biggest communist dictator in the world while he’s actually attacking American soldiers through his own money?’”
