Scott Jennings didn’t jump to President Donald Trump’s defense right away when asked if the president had a “corruption problem” ― and later allowed that Democrats will no doubt jump on the allegations.

On Tuesday’s “The Fifth Column” podcast, co-host Michael Moynihan posed the question to see if CNN’s resident GOP heel was “up to the job” to possibly be the White House press secretary. (Jennings is reportedly being considered for it.)

“Does Donald Trump and the Trump administration have a corruption problem?” Moynihan asked.

Jennings said “Mmm. ... Hmm,” paused for several seconds and heaved a sigh before mildly addressing the query ― instead of shooting it down as someone who might be a mouthpiece for Trump would perhaps do.

“That’s a very generic question,” Jennings said. “I mean, is there something pretty simple?”

“I’ve given you the easiest possible way. If I get specific: pardons, pardon the Binance guy, for instance, World Liberty Financial coins, Russian guys paying for weddings, etc.,” Moynihan replied.

The last assertion about a Russian oligarch bankrolling a big chunk of Donald Trump Jr.’s recent nuptials celebration sparked a somewhat comical conversation. Jennings seemed to take the president’s claim that his son paid back Umar Kremlev at face value, even though Trump Jr. and wife Bettina Trump previously claimed Kremlev’s largesse was a friendly gift.

The conversation swiveled to Hunter Biden before the crew shifted to the $148 million that investors in a $TRUMP meme coin paid to have dinner with the president in 2025.

“It’s kind of gross, right? Like, there’s some taint to it,” co-host Kmele Foster said.

Replied Jennings: “I’ll be candid with you. This is not my social world. I don’t necessarily exist in that world. I’m generally — I’m just a son of a garbage man from Kentucky. But my general expectation of them is that they should follow all the applicable laws and ethics regulations, and I believe that they are. Do I think that the Democrats are going to, if they were to win any majority of either chamber, do I think they’re going to dig into all this? Absolutely.”

Earlier this week, Jennings also exercised caution when asked whether he supported Trump’s ban of CNN, MS NOW and Politico, while questioning his own network’s “framing” of coverage about Trump.
