Jimmy Kimmel Has A New Name For The Kennedy Center — And It’s Savage

Jimmy Kimmel continues to mock Donald Trump’s ongoing campaign to add his name to the Kennedy Center. “Yesterday, Trump’s handpicked board at the Kennedy Center voted to close for renovations ― moments after a judge ruled they cannot add Trump’s name to the building without approval from Congress,” Kimmel said during his monologue on Wednesday night. “So now the big baby says if the Supreme Court doesn’t overturn that ruling and put his name on the wall next to Kennedy’s, there will be no renovations at all,” the late night host added. Kimmel said that the president is putting his name “on everything in town.” “At this point, the only thing he doesn’t want his name on is Don Jr.,” Kimmel said of the president’s eldest son. He then joked that Trump is “holding the building hostage.” “They really should call it the Melania Trump Kennedy Center,” the host said to laughs from the audience. Trump said on Truth Social that he was closing the center “for safety reasons” after a federal judge denied efforts to add the unnecessarily pompous phrase ― “renovated and restored by President Donald J. Trump” ― to the exterior of the building. “The Renovation and Reconstruction, which is a very large and complex job, cannot begin until such time as the D.C. Circuit rules on the Board’s approved name,” Trump said in his post on Tuesday, before making his views abundantly clear. “If the ruling is a negative one, which it should not be, and is not overturned by the U.S. Supreme Court, the Reconstruction and the Renovation of The Kennedy Center will not take place,” he said. President John F. Kennedy’s niece, Maria Shriver, had much to say about Trump’s attempt to “permanently” connect his name to her late uncle’s. “This statement from Trump blows my mind,” she wrote on X earlier this week. “That a sitting president would not let any renovations to a public building go on unless he gets to first put his name in the said building… What a sad state of affairs. What a tragedy.” She called Trump “small minded” and “narcissistic” while adding that “actually great men, devoted to public service and the public good do not act like this.” “Imagine spending your time and your days focused on this, as everyday Americans struggle with healthcare, gas prices, rent, and food,” she said. “Imagine spending your days focused on this, while a war rages under your leadership.” By entering your email and clicking Sign Up, you're agreeing to let us send you customized marketing messages about us and our advertising partners.
