Attorney General Todd Blanche on Tuesday hosted the White House press briefing and did what President Donald Trump once deemed unthinkable: He acknowledged having preselected reporters from whom to take questions.

Trump decried the common practice while Joe Biden was in office.

“I will take questions if there are any, and I know it’s a different environment than before,” said Blanche during a Rose Garden press briefing. “I notice you guys are sweating, which is nice. I love to see that. We’ll start out with Caroline Downey from the National Review.”

He continued amid a sea of raised hands, “They give you a list, guys. Everybody calm down.”

While Trump’s former personal attorney appeared unbothered by the admission that he had preselected reporters, Trump had castigated Biden for doing the exact same thing at multiple press briefings.

“Biden calls on a specific reporter, gets a question, then reads the answer off a card,” Trump complained on his Truth Social platform in 2023. “In other words, he knows the question, then reads the answer. What is going on here?”

The MAGA leader wasn’t the only Republican to accuse Biden of fielding planted questions: Lara Trump, former co-chair of the Republican National Committee and the president’s daughter-in-law, also tore into Biden over the practice during a Fox News interview.

“Think about the message and the signal that this sends to our adversaries, to Vladimir Putin, to Kim Jong Un, to Xi Jinping, the people that are kind of looking for weaknesses in the United States,” she said in 2021. “It makes us look ridiculous, it is embarrassing. … It’s crazy.”
