Two bands took to Instagram to call out Ed Sheeran for refusing to take a meaningful stand after rapper Macklemore was dropped from the singer’s tour.

“No artist should tolerate the censorship of another artist, however many millions of dollars are in play,” Massive Attack wrote Wednesday on Instagram. “We stand in solidarity with all artists risking their careers in defence of the rights of the Palestinian people, & against the illegal occupation, apartheid, war crimes & ongoing genocide perpetrated by the State of Israel.”

In a separate post, the band Garbage called out Sheeran, saying the only victim in this ordeal is the Palestinian people.

“This is a clear and undeniable sign that the global consciousness has shifted. The normalisation of an apartheid state, and the attempts to sanitise or justify its actions, will no longer be tolerated,” the band wrote Tuesday on Instagram. “Ed, there is only one victim here: the Palestinian people.”

Sheeran has faced massive backlash since it was revealed that the concert promoter for his Loop tour dropped Macklemore — who was one of his opening acts — after the rapper made “Free Palestine” remarks at a show earlier this month. Macklemore alleged on Instagram that Robert Kraft, the owner of Gillette Stadium, told Sheeran that Macklemore wouldn’t be allowed to play there. Macklemore also said that Kraft rallied other stadium owners to ban him as well.

Sheeran said it wasn’t his decision to drop Macklemore and that he is “not complicit,” but he chooses to not make his political views known publicly.

“I choose to use my fame and platform to be a place of safety and sanctuary, to maintain diplomacy and keep conversations open, not closed,” Sheeran wrote Tuesday on Instagram. “If we only focus on shouting the loudest, nothing will ever change. There are different approaches to being an advocate for change.”

After Sheeran released his statement, all of his opening acts dropped out of the tour in solidarity with Palestine and Macklemore, including Finneas — Billie Eilish’s brother — who wrote on Instagram that “artists must not be silenced when they speak up for the oppressed.”

Several other public figures have spoken out against Sheeran, including Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.), who said she’ll “change the channel” whenever his music comes on.

Pink Floyd singer-songwriter Roger Waters railed against Sheeran in an Instagram video.

“There’s two kinds of people in this world: There’s people who do the right thing, that rapper Macklemore would be one of those people,” Waters said. “And there’s people, many of them sadly little ― excuse me, I almost used the F-word there ― pricks like you, who do the wrong thing. Goodbye.”
