Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) hinted on Sunday at his thoughts about running for president again in the 2028 election.

During an Aug. 26 interview on the “Lt. Dan” podcast, Cruz reiterated his interest in the top job.

“It’s no secret that I want to be president,” Cruz said. “I ran for president. I came close.”

When asked if he was going to run again, Cruz replied, “Time will tell.”

Kristen Welker played that clip of Cruz on “Meet the Press” Sunday and asked if he was seriously considering a run for president in 2028. This time, Cruz changed the topic.

“You know, the Book of Ecclesiastes tells us there’s a time for every season,” Cruz replied. “And this is not that season right now. This is the season of the midterms. And I’ll tell you, I am spending my time on the road campaigning for candidates all over the country.”

Cruz then described the upcoming elections as “the most consequential midterms we have ever had” and continued to promote his efforts to help fellow conservatives win.

“In the last decade, there has not been another Republican who’s campaigned for more Senate candidates, more House candidates, more gubernatorial candidates than I have,” Cruz said.

When Welker brought the discussion back to the 2028 election and asked Cruz to provide a “quick yes or no” on whether he will run for president, he refused to answer directly.

“As I said, there will be a time for that conversation,” Cruz said.

Last week, President Donald Trump, who defeated Cruz for the 2016 Republican presidential nomination, weighed in on the Texas senator teasing another run for the White House.

“I would say that he’s very talented; he’s a very good friend of mine,” Trump said. “I think he might do that. Yeah, he’s a talented guy.”
