Melinda Gates matched Olivia Rodrigo’s $10 million donation to 10 women and girls’ organizations at Rodrigo’s inaugural Daisy Chains Fields Festival.

Gates joined Rodrigo onstage Saturday night in Irvine, California, at the festival with an all-women lineup and where 100% of its net proceeds are going to 10 organizations that advocate for women and girls.

“I really believe that giving women the tools to decide their own futures and live healthy lives free of violence and discrimination is the most effective tool we have at changing the world for the better,” Rodrigo said onstage.

She then introduced Gates, saying she doesn’t know many people “who represent that idea more” than her, announcing Gates had matched her donation, bringing the total to $20 million.

Gates praised Rodrigo for creating the festival: “Look at what you have done!”

“What I love about you is that you know the real power is not up here onstage. It’s with everybody there — all of you,” Gates saying pointing to the crowd. “When women and girls come together to dream and to lead, we change the world.”

Rodrigo first announced her $10 million donation to the 10 nonprofit organizations at a new conference on Friday. She was joined by representatives from the 10 organizations, including the Center for Reproductive Rights and Planned Parenthood.

Several top acts performed at the festival Saturday night, including Rodrigo herself, Chappell Roan, Stevie Nicks, Sarah McLachlan, Doechii and more. Rodrigo said the idea for the festival was based off Lilith Fair, the all-women festival in the ’90s founded by McLachlan.

“The first person I called when I decided I wanted to do this festival was Sarah McLachlan. She’s a total trailblazer and an incredible artist and a friend,” Rodrigo said during a “Good Morning America” interview in June.

Gates, who is a billionaire, has championed women’s organizations in the past. In 2024, she announced that over the next two years, she planned to donate $1 billion to women-focused initiatives.
