“Being jealous of your child instead of proud of them.”

“I have the same knee-jerk reactions to a lot of the same things mentioned in this post, but don’t forget that you never know what someone else is going through.

My wife and I couldn’t conceive naturally, so we became foster and then adoptive parents. Our two children have early trauma that I can’t even begin to imagine how it felt. There have been many occasions where we were on the receiving end of those kinds of looks, but I wouldn’t trade our situation for anything.”

"Using them for ‘woe is me’ or clickbait online.

Not parenting. ‘Oh, Archie’s just a free spirit, that’s why he’s attacking your son with the toy cricket bat. He’s just expressing himself.’”

"Bad diet. You are fucking up their health when you just feed them fast food and soda. That shit is addictive, and that’s a hard habit to break, especially if that’s all you know as a kid.

Always stimulated. iPads on trips, phones at restaurants, etc. Your kid won’t know how to be bored. When they don’t know how to calm their brains, they will feel anxiety all the time. They will never be comfortable with just their thoughts because they’ve never had to be. Let your kids be bored; it’s good for them.”

“Or just talking on the phone all the time in their presence, ignoring them in a restaurant, in a park, at their sports events, never interacting with them.”

"People will purposefully make their kids’ lives harder because they feel like guidance has to be ‘earned’ by the children they chose to bring into this world. I don’t care if you ‘turned out fine’ with your parents making you ‘pull yourself up by your bootstraps’. Imagine how much better life would’ve been if your parents had truly supported you?

Life gives children enough adversity. You brought children into this world. Don’t add to the adversity they’ll face.”
