JD Vance took a moment away from promoting his new book about his late-in-life conversion to Catholicism to gripe about the home-decorating choices of many of his fellow Americans.

And, yes, religion was involved.

During an interview with conservative podcaster Michael Knowles, the vice president made it clear that he is not a fan of the “In This House We Believe” signs some Americans put on their lawns or doorsteps to promote inclusivity, social justice, and equality.

The vice president started his critique of the “In This House” signs by noting that “how many of the rituals, institutions, and practices of Catholicism show up in the modern world completely divorced from the God part and the grace part of it.”

Vance also claimed the signs are not only “hideous,” but they are “like such a disgusting butchering of the Nicene Creed,” a reference to the famous statement of faith first written in 325 A.D. that millions of Christians still recite each Sunday.

“When you realize it, you’re like, ’Oh my God, people still have this desire to profess — to do it very publicly, and even to do it in this kind of cadence that you see in the Nicene Creed,” he added.

“And, of course, they do it in this very politically motivated way,” he griped, apparently not recognizing the hypocrisy of the second-highest official in a secular country appearing to promote one form of faith over another.

Vance: We're past the point where most people hang those hideous yard signs that say, 'in this house we believe blah, blah, blah. Love is love, whatever. No person is illegal.' That sign is such a disgusting butchering of the Nicene Creed pic.twitter.com/0h6jxLvxOV

HuffPost reached out to the vice president for comment, but no one immediately responded.

However, many people on social media did. They weren’t impressed. At all.

Yeah, damn all that “love thy neighbor” malarkey!! Who said that crazy stuff anyway? 🧐😐😑 https://t.co/XdKiv7ts3w

"Yes, yes, what Jesus failed to appreciate is that the Poor ARE the problem!" Just a fundamental, dishonest statement by JD Vance that has nothing to do with the teachings of Christ. What he is espousing here is Christian Nationalism which has zero to do with Christ. https://t.co/qqfc1LvP2d

So, what you're saying is, Love is hidious?🖕 https://t.co/7Kyhrn0mNP

He’s just so darn likable https://t.co/T7zW5GuuRI

Vance’s cluelessness on fulldisplay again. The Nicene Creed is the at the core of Christian belief. None of what Vance says here sounds very Christian at all. https://t.co/IPAyhED1NZ

Yes, those hideous flags and yardsigns. 'In this house we believe...." Whatever. https://t.co/f4vWNh3Wkd pic.twitter.com/sNVUi9Ahrz

Some people remembered Vance’s recent feud with Pope Leo XIV and wished the pontiff would set the veep straight.

Woooah... excuse me, @Pontifex I know you're busy but VANCE thinks he understands the Nicene Creed...@ArchCordileone https://t.co/Di9wxIbhJM

You can see the entire interview below. The part where Vance gripes about the signs begins around the 21:05 mark.
