Collin Gosselin, one of the eight children who starred on TLC’s “Jon And Kate Plus 8,” is urging his mother, Kate Gosselin, to take a lie detector test about his allegations that she zip-tied him up and locked him in the basement as a child. “I would like to invite my mom to do a lie detector test. ... Mom, if you’re listening to this, we would ask about the zip ties,” Collin Gosselin said in a YouTube interview with independent media personality Strange McNights posted Saturday. “For so long she’s been putting on this facade to the media ... And for me, I have nothing to hide. I want to ask her these questions,” he continued. Lie detector tests, which measure a person’s physical reaction to a question and not whether they’re telling the truth, are not fully reliable and generally not admissible in court. In 2024, Collin Gosselin alleged that in an interview with the Sun that when he was a child, his mother zip-tied his hands and feet together and locked him in a basement. “My mother had a room built in our unfinished section of the storage basement,” he said. “She had a room put up with cameras in it, a tiny window in the corner and it was bolt-locked from the outside.” “When my mother would put me in that room multiple times, she had zip-tied my hands and feet together and bolt-locked the door, turned the lights off and had cameras there just watching me,” he said. HuffPost has reached out to Kate Gosselin’s manager for comment. Collin Gosselin got candid in Saturday’s hourlong YouTube interview about his upbringing and being raised by Kate and Jon Gosselin, who were sprung into the spotlight after having twins and then sextuplets. The family had their own reality TV show about the challenges of raising eight kids, which aired on TLC for 11 seasons from 2007 to 2017. After years of interviews alleging abuse, Collin Gosselin announced on June 17 that his memoir “In the Shadow of Eight: Surviving the Reality of My Childhood” will be released in October. In 2023, Kate Gosselin told People in a statement that Collin Gosselin had gotten “multiple psychiatric diagnoses” because of his “unpredictable and violent behavior.” Previously, Kate Gosselin said Collin Gosselin had “special needs” and was hospitalized when he was 12. Kate and Jon Gosselin divorced in 2009, but the show continued, renamed as “Kate Plus 8.” Since the reality show went off the air in 2017, Kate Gosselin has taken part in other reality TV show ventures, like “Dancing With the Stars,” “Celebrity Apprentice,” and “Special Forces: World’s Toughest Test.” In late 2025, she joined TikTok, where she regularly gives updates on her rescue dogs and vlogs about her work as a nurse. Collin Gosselin’s book is set to be published Oct. 13.
