Mercedes-Benz adopts n8n platform for company-wide AI automation

Mercedes-Benz has partnered with German low-code automation firm n8n to roll out artificial intelligence (AI)-powered workflow automation across its business. The German automaker said the platform aims to give employees the ability to build and deploy AI-driven workflows within their day-to-day operational processes. The rollout covers all major business functions, spanning research and development, production, sales, financial services, human resources and information technology. The deployment runs on a self-hosted, cloud-agnostic basis, which the company says aligns with its modular technology architecture while keeping control of sensitive data and processes in-house. To build internal momentum ahead of the launch, Mercedes-Benz organised a company-wide hackathon that drew participation from more than 1,500 employees across its business units. The exercise was used to surface practical AI and automation use cases, with the most viable proposals now being taken forward as part of the global deployment. Mercedes-Benz chief information officer Katrin Lehmann said: “Together with n8n, we make it easy for our teams at Mercedes-Benz to turn ideas into measurable impact across our value chain and to actively shape how we operate.” Mercedes-Benz has structured its approach to AI capabilities into three tiers. “Takers” use AI tools in routine work; “Makers” design and manage workflows on platforms including n8n; and “Builders” develop more sophisticated solutions such as software development tools and complex AI-driven systems. The framework is designed to progress employees from passive AI usage towards active involvement in shaping automated processes. Within Mercedes-Benz's wider AI ecosystem, n8n functions as an orchestration layer that connects existing systems and accommodates both conventional automation and emerging AI agent frameworks. The company said the initiative also supports European digital sovereignty and the broader European AI ecosystem. It added that the rollout is aimed at improving speed, transparency and scalability across its value chain. n8n founder and CEO Jan Oberhauser added: “Most companies are still facing the question of how to move AI from pilot to production. What we are building together with Mercedes-Benz answers that question at a scale few can achieve – supported by an architecture that keeps data, control and flexibility in the hands of the Mercedes-Benz team.” "Mercedes-Benz adopts n8n platform for company-wide AI automation" was originally created and published by Just Auto, a GlobalData owned brand.
