'WTF Is He Talking About?': Trump's Acting AG's 'Crazy' Claim Leaves People Puzzled

Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche left people scratching their heads on Sunday after cooking up a new defense of voter ID restrictions during a “Meet the Press” interview. “Like every time you walk into a restaurant or a club, you have to show your ID. How about you have to show your ID to vote?” he told Kristen Welker. “That’s not anything that’s crazy. And that’s what we should be talking about.” Welker did not follow up on that. While clubs with age or membership restrictions may require ID to enter, that’s simply not true for most restaurants, unless patrons are ordering booze with their meal. However, it does echo one of President Donald Trump’s talking points on voter ID, as the president has made similar and equally baffling claims over the years. Trump has even said that Americans need to show identification to buy groceries and purchase gas. They don’t. Critics on social media called out Blanche for the confusing claim: Brother what kind of restaurants are you going to? https://t.co/jagAJsP30W In 46 years old. Never ONCE in my life have I ever been asked to show ID in a restaurant. Wtf is he talking about? https://t.co/4JIMAbbd1k The stupidity of our federal administration is apparently limitless. https://t.co/rGTBOCBZlI I have never had to show my ID at a restaurant unless I bought a drink. That you said that is crazy. https://t.co/beEsghR5n9 A friend asks: “Has it occurred to anyone that the MAGAs think you have to show IDs at restaurants because they’ve been eating all their meals at strip clubs? This isn’t even an unreasonable theory” https://t.co/Te22xam6GV Where did he come up with this? @DAGToddBlanche please tell us what restaurant asks for your ID “every time you walk in”? In his audition to be AG, Blanche apparently has to say things even more stupid than Trump would say. He is not a serious person. Performing for the idiot… https://t.co/96YA9jqa0T Where do they find idiots like this? Why would you say something so stupid? Do you really think people are asked to show ID to go to restaurants? Do you live in an underground bunker and get your food shoved through a slot in the door? https://t.co/TIzRkkNjq4 This is TOTALLY true. I was refused service at Starbucks the other day because I didn't have my ID with me. https://t.co/6M2H66h4DB I must be going to different restaurants. I have never been asked to show ID to eat. https://t.co/7I05yPvvKd Who hasn’t been asked for their ID just to walk into a Waffle House? https://t.co/RpvOV19hHR Restaurants can refuse you service. Voting is a constitutional right. See the difference or still confused? If voter ID is so harmless, why do they fight against making IDs free and universally accessible? https://t.co/khnG2FO51T I’ve been on this planet for 46 years and I have never been asked for my ID to buy a sandwich. https://t.co/7mL45NIuF6 Maître d’ always IDs me upon entry at Chili’s https://t.co/ehdMSV4hXe Is my man admitting to eating lunch at the strip club? https://t.co/54hDwA6ji0 “Can you supersize that?”“Let me see your driver’s license.” https://t.co/wDuJJLDbSi I hate when i forget my drivers license when i go to chili’s https://t.co/rX9hBvdEEF By entering your email and clicking Sign Up, you're agreeing to let us send you customized marketing messages about us and our advertising partners.
