A large fire broke out in a factory building at an industrial park with police closing major roads around the area. Thick plumes of black smoke could be seen across Greater Manchester with the blaze believed to have started in the Trafford area - although the cause is not yet known. Emergency services were called to Clarence Avenue in Trafford Park at about 13:25 BST, firefighters said. People were urged to avoid the area as emergency services worked to bring the fire under control, with reports of chemical and oil drums stored nearby. Greater Manchester Police confirmed officers went to support the fire service, with several road closures in place. Photos of the fire have been shared widely online and people have reported being able to see the smoke from as far away as Marple Bridge, in Stockport. Crews from Stretford, Eccles and Manchester Central were called to the area to fight the blaze. Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said it was working alongside members of a hazardous area response team.
