Joe Scarborough’s Relentless Mockery Of Todd Blanche Causes Whole Show To Lose It

You’d think “Show me the money!” would be the line from “Jerry Maguire” that both President Donald Trump and acting Attorney General Todd Blanche would resonate the most with, but Joe Scarborough had a different take. During a press conference earlier this week, Blanche, who previously served as Trump’s personal attorney and is currently filling in for the recently fired Pam Bondi, was asked whether he’d want to be appointed AG full time, and his answer was pretty thirsty. “If President Trump chooses to keep me as acting, that’s an honor,” Blanche said. “If he chooses to nominate me, that’s an honor. If he chooses to nominate somebody else and I go back to being the DAG, that’s an honor.” Blanche then said if Trump decides to nominate somebody else for the attorney general gig, he’ll be totally cool with that as well, and will tell him, “Thank you very much. I love you, sir.” Acting AG Todd Blanche: "I love working for President Trump. It's the greatest honor of a lifetime. And if President Trump chooses to nominate somebody else and asks me to go do something else, I'll say, 'Thank you very much, I love you, sir.'" pic.twitter.com/DXtQOVCRDG Scarborough found Blanche’s remarks about Trump so sycophantic that during Thursday’s episode of “Morning Joe,” the host couldn’t help but compare them to the famous scene from Cameron Crowe’s 1996 film in which Dorothy (Renée Zellweger) and Jerry (Tom Cruise) profess their of love for one another — and Scarborough’s relentless mockery eventually derailed the entire show into a fit of giggles. The MS NOW host’s jeering was prompted after panelist David Rohde warned that Trump needed advisers who would give him the “blunt advice he needs and deserves” when it comes to the Iran ceasefire negotiations. “I mean, that’s a problem. Are they? Whether you’re talking about the Pentagon or—” Scarborough said as he began to laugh. “I mean, you saw what the acting attorney general said yesterday to Donald Trump?” Scarborough then copped a cutesy mock-romantic tone, and said as if he were Blanche: “I love you, I love you even if you fire me, even if you fire me.” “Willie, he says, ’Even if you fire me, I love you!’” Scarborough added, causing some of his panelists to laugh. Scarborough then took a more serious tone and said: “I mean, no! They’re not going to give him the advice he needs to hear! It’s good for America, it’s good for the administration, it’s good for Donald Trump if someone will tell him the truth!” As Scarborough continued to tease Blanche for his tone while stating how much he loves Trump, his co-host and wife, Mika Brzezinski, interjected. “I know, it was really painful to watch,” she said, attempting to get the conversation back on track. But Scarborough wasn’t having it and kept up the shenanigans. Riffing on the moment, Scarborough joked: “And then they asked another question. [Blanche] goes, he said, ‘Wait, shut up, shut up! You had me at hello, you had me at hello,’” Scarborough said, referring to Zellweger’s famous line. “I was very moved,” Scarborough said sarcastically. “Very moved by that moment. Oh wait. No, I’m sorry, that was ‘Jerry Maguire.’ But watching Todd Blanche yesterday, he did sort of strike a Renée Zellweger-type figure.” Annoyed, Brzezinski implored MS NOW producers to roll the clip of Blanche. But after it aired, Scarborough was even more fired up, and began to immediately hum Bruce Springsteen’s ballad “Secret Garden,” which played in “Jerry Maguire” during the movie’s more intimate moments. Some of his visibility amused panelists even joined in. Brzezinski, however, was still determined to move on, and tried agreeing with her husband that Blanche was being “pathetic” in an attempt to quell the silliness. “There’s obviously growing concern about this situation with Iran,” Brzezinski said to the camera. “I have growing concern about Todd Blanche,” Scarborough said. Brzezinski then turned to Scarborough. “Yes, I have concern about making my next point without being interrupted,” Brzezinski said. “So, here it is. There’s a couple—” “I love you,” Scarborough said, which completely broke Brzezinski. “Stop,” she said, trying her best not to laugh. “I love you,” he said again. And this time Brzezinski completely lost it — as well as the entirety of the panel. As everyone cracked up about the sad absurdity of Trump and his “clowns,” Brzezinski tried once again to highlight how none of this was a laughing matter. “It’s scary,” Brzezinski said. “It’s actually scary.” Watch the entire goof-fest above.
