“Something I didn’t miss when I was abroad was the tipping culture in the United States. Here, tipping is expected everywhere for everything.” "That does wonders for weight and skin. At least mine. I always look and feel better in other countries, and I always gain weight and feel heavy and just 'ugh' in the USA, and a big part of it is the food, the lack of community, and having to drive everywhere. Those little things add up until I just feel down." "I am going to add that Americans traveling abroad (while I was living abroad) have dispelled nicely the 'arrogant tourist' theme that had been kicking off when I first moved overseas. For reference, I was in Germany, Kazakhstan, the UAE, Tunisia, Ethiopia, and Ghana. Americans were the nicest of the Western tourists. That did not use to be the case." "This guy actually expected $20 USD for the 'help' and got really angry at me when I apologized and told him I didn’t have any American money on me. He had just rushed in to 'help' without establishing any kind of verbal contract or communication at all; so strange!" Note: Responses have been edited for length/clarity.
