The crash happened around 10:48 p.m. where Georgia Highway 138 and Interstate 20 meet.

The Salem High School football team was coming back from their Friday night game against Greater Atlanta Christian in Gwinnett County.

Troopers said the 74-year-old school bus driver lost control and went across all lanes of Ga. 138. When the bus went into the northbound lanes, it hit a Black Kia Soul. Both drivers were taken to the hospital.

Rockdale County School District told Channel 2 that 22 students and three staff members were taken to the hospital.

GSP says some parents took their students to the hospital, others were taken by ambulance and one was airlifted.

"Our Troopers, officials from the school and officials from National EMS are all working together to compile a complete list of students, injuries and which hospital each student went to and how they were transported," Georgia State Patrol said.

A witness told Channel 2 that she was at the gas station near the impact. She heard a loud boom and turned around to see the Rockdale County school bus overturned.
