Kristen Bell doesn’t want you to get it twisted. Parenting is tough for her, too, no matter what Hollywood stereotypes you might have in your head.

“It’s hard. Do not think because I am on your television that it is easy for me. It’s brutal. I cry weekly,” the “Frozen” actor said in a new profile with Bustle, published on Thursday.

“Oftentimes when you’re in that cyclone of puberty, you could think, My kid is the only one doing this. And that is just simply not a fact,” Bell added.

Bell and her husband, actor and podcaster Dax Shepard, have two daughters: Lincoln, 13, and Delta, 11. The couple is known for sharing candid stories about their marriage and their children in the press and on social media, though that sounds like it’s changing.

“It’s always a debate between Kantianism and utilitarianism,” Bell tells Bustle, referencing German philosopher Immanuel Kant. “For the good of the people, we should share our dirty stories, we should share our shame, we should share our hardships. But for the good of the one?”

“My main job in life is to protect those two,” she said of her daughters. “I guess a conclusion we came to at a time in our parenting journey is, like, we can share all the cute things when they’re little, but when they could possibly be exposed to [media] or possibly have a feeling in response to it … well, now, the equation has changed.”

“There’s someone else in the mix, and you have to have enough self-awareness and consideration to consider that person,” she said. “And that person is my daughter, so she’s No. 1.”

While we might not hear specific stories about her daughters anymore, Bell will likely stay honest about her experiences as a parent and as a partner.

Shepard is equally open, as he’s shared why he lets his kids talk back to him ― for good reason, according to him.

“They do talk back and they are not respectful. I can understand where that seems completely unruly, but I want you to know what I’m prioritizing,” Shepard said on his podcast last year. “Which is when they’re 19 and their boss is a fucking creep, I want them to talk back. I want them to be disrespectful. I want them to always advocate for themselves, whether I think they’re right or wrong”
