Selena Gomez has opened up about how vaping nicotine has changed her voice, stressing to her 400 million-plus followers on social media Sunday that “it’s just not worth it” to try. Gomez, in an update to her Instagram stories, admitted that she vaped “a lot” and it’s “so hard” to quit. “It’s so stupid and it’s changed my voice. So if you guys don’t like listening to my voice, that’s totally understandable. I don’t mind,” said the “Only Murders in the Building” star before adding with a laugh, “Just don’t listen to it. Just don’t listen.” She continued, “But I am really excited because I stopped and I just hope I can keep it up. It’s really hard, but I know if you are going through something, you can get through it, too. It sucks.” The update from the Rare Beauty founder — who has been open about her battles with lupus and bipolar disorder over the years — arrives roughly 10 months after she addressed speculation about a tonal change in her voice, stopping short of revealing a cause behind it on an Instagram Live last year. “I think my point is that sometimes things happen, I get weird, my throat kind of swells inside sometimes. That’s all,” she said at the time. Gomez’s “Only Murders in the Building” — the comedy drama also starring Steve Martin and Martin Short — is set to return for a sixth season based in London on Dec. 8.
