Rep. James Comer (R-Ky.) said Democrats will go after President Donald Trump if they regain the House and will not investigate fraud and mismanagement as Republicans do.

Viewers let the Oversight Committee chair know his declaration on Fox News on Sunday completely lacked self-awareness.

“Investigating Trump is going after waste, fraud, abuse, and mismanagement of the federal government,” one person wrote on X.

Appearing on ex-Oversight Chair Trey Gowdy’s Fox News show, Comer went off on what he predicts will happen if Democrats win back the House as expected.

“They’re going after Trump,” Comer said. “They’re gonna do everything they can to harass President Trump. One thing they’re not gonna do is what we’ve been focused on. We’ve been focused on the waste, fraud, abuse and mismanagement in the federal government. That’s what our committee is supposed to do. ... That’s what Republicans focus on.”

Comer, who is heavily favored to keep his seat in November but has stated interest in running for governor in 2027, issued another he-said-what statement to Gowdy that Republicans help “Americans frustrated with the cost of living.”

That cost has climbed due to President Donald Trump’s prolonged war against Iran and reckless tariffs.

Meanwhile, the president has enriched himself mightily during his second term and used taxpayer money to fund partisan political ads glorifying himself. A judge blocked them.

Trump recently announced a plan to buy diesel fuel from Russia to lower prices after threatening last year to punish other countries who made deals with Vladimir Putin. Trump on Friday pulled back new economic sanctions against Russia that were meant to pressure the country to end its war against Ukraine.

Some commenters jabbed at Comer’s stumbling attempts to find impeachable dirt on ex-President Joe Biden.
