‘He’s A Maniac’: Bill Maher Predicts Trump Will Get ‘Cooked’ In The Midterms

Bill Maher predicted that the midterm elections will not go in President Donald Trump’s favor. Maher weighed in on the upcoming elections during Monday’s episode of his “Club Random” podcast after guest Michael Douglas said “a lot of guys” will be in “serious trouble” after the midterms in November. The Marvel actor didn’t name anyone directly. “I think he’s cooked,” Maher said of Trump. Douglas agreed. The episode was recorded before Maher dined with Trump for a second time at the White House last week. “He’s a maniac who does fascistic things and pals around with [and] likes dictators and, you know, that kind of shit,” Maher declared. “And ICE and just scary shit!” Douglas, an Oscar-winning actor, complained about Trump’s “unpredictability.” “Truthfully ... I was born in 1944, and this is the worst time I can remember in my lifetime,” Douglas said. “Not just the states, but worldwide.” Maher appeared shocked at Douglas’ claim at first but then agreed. Douglas argued that while there was violence in the ’60s, it wasn’t on the same scale. Maher noted that “nobody was more alarmed” about Trump getting elected than he was, adding, “I was way out front on he’s never going to concede elections.” Switching to a less critical tone, Maher admitted that now more than 10 years after Trump first took office, the president “didn’t fucking end the world.” “Let’s be honest, our lives are good,” Maher said, before stressing that the concern he and others exhibited over Trump getting elected was a bit “hysterical” but for “good reason.” Earlier in the episode, Douglas recalled his past interactions with Trump. “I knew him, you know, I’ve known him in New York. He was a funny guy. Sort of a self-deprecating sense of humor,” he said. Douglas said that when he spent time with Trump before, he didn’t display a “fascist mentality.” Maher also mocked the fact that Trump allegedly thought the comedian was going to “go MAGA” after their first White House dinner date in March 2025. Meanwhile, Trump gushed on Friday about their latest dinner, which sports commentator Stephen A. Smith and musician Kid Rock also attended. “It was a great dinner; it was a very informative dinner,” Trump told reporters. “Smart people. Stephen A. is great. Bill Maher — I will tell you what. He likes me a lot more than people understand, and I actually like him. It was a good dinner.” Trump’s opinion on the dinner was starkly different than what he said about Maher months after their first supper. Reflecting on the encounter in a Truth Social post in February, Trump raged at Maher, calling the talk show host a “jerk” and said their dinner together at the White House was “a total waste of time.” Listen to Maher’s remarks about Trump below.
