California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) weighed in on his ex-wife, Kimberly Guilfoyle, who was asked to resign this month as U.S. ambassador to Greece amid misconduct allegations. Newsom, who was campaigning for Democrats in New Hampshire on Saturday, said he doesn’t know enough about it. “I haven’t talked to her in a while,” he told CBS News. “I just wish her the best, and I don’t have much, honestly, much more to say on it. It’s unfortunate.” HuffPost has reached out to Guilfoyle for comment. Newsom and Guilfoyle first met in 1994 at a Democratic fundraiser in San Francisco, and began dating a year later. They wed in 2001 and divorced in 2006. Guilfoyle was romantically linked to Donald Trump Jr. from 2018 until 2024. The Trump administration asked the former Fox News commentator to step down as ambassador following allegations of improper conduct and misappropriation of funds that were published in The Wall Street Journal. Although Guilfoyle publicly denied the allegations, she submitted her formal resignation on Oct. 13. In an X post, she said she would “vigorously defend” herself against the claims. “These allegations are false, and I intend to vigorously defend my name, my reputation, and my integrity,” she wrote. “I have dedicated my professional life to fighting for justice, standing up for what is right, and defending the values that make America exceptional. I will not allow false accusations to define my decades of public service.” Trump spoke about Guilfoyle on Oct. 13, telling reporters that she was “doing a good job,” but that officials “didn’t like what we were reading” about her. “She wasn’t a member of my family,” Trump added after a reporter mentioned that she was once engaged to his oldest son.
