My doggo loves cool weather, so here are my favorite boots, sneakers, and slip-ons for autumn walks.

I am a "Judy" of all trades who writes about pretty much everything, but specializes in sexual wellness, personal care, plus-size fashion, maximalist home goods, and gnarly before and after pics!

Unless stated otherwise, all sizes in this post are listed in women's.

Because Chow Chows are double-coated dogs, they tend to get hotter quicker in the heat (but don't worry, their thick coats actually help them regulate their body temps pretty well). So it's safe to say, we do most of our walking and outdoor excursions when the weather cools down, and since I like to let him lead us with his nose, we tend to meander around cemeteries, gardens, greenways, brick paths, side walks, parking lots, wooded areas, prairies, meadows, waterfalls, creek beds, snow banks...you name it.

The shoes in this pic are a discontinued version of the Grandview GTX shoes by Teva (#3), with the same waterproof design, but a much chunkier heel that really makes one's butt look great while walking!

The laces are really just for looks and add a very sophisticated touch to your style. No one needs to know you've never tied or untied your shoes!

You truly do not understand the way I can literally slip on these sneakers and head out the door to walk the dog or run errands every day. These shoes are absolutely worth the price because I wear them almost every day (in rotation with the rest of the shoes on this list): to work, to the grocery store, to walk Tormund, to the dog park, to take out the trash... These are the perfect get-up-and-go shoes, and they are comfortable and supportive, and last!

I have worn my first pair of the Athena 2 shoes into the ground from almost daily wear over the past year and a half because they are so comfortable (with or without socks). TBH, I need another pair, soon!

Promising review: "Fits great! There are days when it can be hard or time-consuming to tie my shoes, and this is my second pair of these. I have thoroughly enjoyed them both. My boyfriend has bought a few pairs now, too, and replaced them when they were worn out. Worth a try for sure. Make sure you tie them how you want before forming an opinion on fit." —Abbi

Another superb slip-on sneaker, but this one is designed with elastic laces, which are more functional, but still not necessary for wear. I love these shoes: they are lightweight, breathable, and have a very cushy interior for extra comfort. Even better, these shoes are machine washable! Being able to toss these into the wash really comes in handy when you wear them all the time to walk the dog and get them a little muddy, grass-stained, or wet. You can even just remove the insole and wash that, if necessary, but I've never noticed these shoes getting stinky annnnnnnnndddddd...I am not a sock person unless it's winter (don't judge me). I let my shoes air dry outside, and they are good as new!

I also wear these to work and with casual outfits because the color is so cute (unfortunately, it was limited edition), but I plan on splurging on more of the new and essential color options. And recently, they've started making these shoes with a water-repellent coating, so you can stay dry in the rain!

Promising review: "I love my Model 000 white sneakers. The first time I wore them was on a trip, and I wore them for two days straight. There was no break-in required. They are my new favorite shoes! They are lightweight but provide good support, too. I washed them, and they came out looking brand new, and they dried really fast." —Julia W.

Get it from Atoms for $145+ (available in sizes 5–16.5 with quarter-size increments, men's sizes 3.5–15 with quarter-size increments, and 20 colors).

I bought these shoes for my Iceland trip, but to break them in and make sure they were sturdy and fit, I wore them constantly while walking my dog. I stand by it that these are the perfect hiking boots; comfortable, supportive, and most importantly, waterproof. Instead of rain boots, I wear these shoes for rainy day dog walks and for snowy day dog walks, and three years later, they have yet to fail me. Like I said, these are my go-to hiking boots and dog walking shoes in the fall and winter because the traction in the sole is phenomenal and they are really, really comfortable, even when wearing them all day long! I wear them in the rain, snow, and ice, and my feet are always dry afterward, even traversing puddles!

Promising review: "These boots are not only cute to look at but so comfortable. The wide toe box is perfect. I also love that the tongue is thin, not bulky like a lot of hiking boots. I can tell they will hold up and waterproof is an extra bonus!" —Mandy P

I bought my first pair of Crocs clogs in 2022...I haven't stopped wearing them since! Those dingy, celery green ones in the photos above have gotten me through airports, long car rides, pool days, grocery pick-ups, household chores, and most importantly, three years of dog walks. I wear these mainly for those LTO (last time out) walks when it's late at night, my pup needs to pee, and I really don't want to deal with shoelaces or my toes feeling restricted. I just slip these on (with or without socks), and we head out the door!

My pup came home to these and loved to chew on them, but did not destroy them (**praise hands**), so I've been able to hold onto this pair for a long time. I wear them in the rain, or nice fall days when it's still a little warm. I like that the rubber material allows for rinsing off dirt...pee...or worse, poo. And with a more intentional scrub, they would probably look good as new, but they are my house shoes, so I don't care as much. I love my current pair, but have been wanting to grab a new pair because they are so scuffed up and worn, but even if I did...I'd still walk my dog in these!

Promising review: "I finally understand the Crocs obsession. I used to look at these and think, 'There is no way those things are comfortable enough to justify looking like that.' Well, I was wrong. These are ridiculously comfortable. They are lightweight, easy to slip on, and perfect for running errands, wearing around the house, or those days when I need to leave the house but refuse to spend 10 minutes deciding which shoes require actual effort. The roomy fit is one of my favorite things because my feet don't feel trapped, and the ventilation holes are great for keeping things breathable. I also love how easy they are to clean because apparently my shoes have to survive my complete lack of coordination. ...These get 5 stars. I officially understand why people wear these everywhere. They may not be winning any beauty contests, but neither am I before coffee, so we're a perfect match." —Bri Probst

I got these because I really really wanted a pair of Ugg slippers, but wanted to be financially responsible (they're $150), and these look so similar and literally under $50, so I figured why not? Originally, they were just for a comfortable chilly / cold weather work shoe, but they ended up becoming my go-to slip-on anytime the temps dropped below 50 degrees and it was still nice out.

Surprisingly, they are SUPER comfortable and make me feel very secure, even with the chunky platform and no support ankle strap! I wore these a lot last winter to walk my dog around at night and also to the dog park (see above, where he's being crowned Prom King at our local dog oasis), and never slipped or tumbled. I also somehow never got them dirty or scuffed, and I was really walking all over in these slip-ons. I can't wait to pull them back out in a couple of weeks!

Promising reviews: "Wow!! I’m completely amazed over these [alternative] Uggs! These are exactly like my name-brand ones but believe it or not, these are way more comfortable... I still can’t believe that these aren’t the real deal! I’m actually ordering two more pairs right now, that’s how awesome these are! Seriously, these are just as good if not better than the name brand... Overall, these shoes are an excellent choice for the comfort, style and most importantly value for the money, ya just can’t beat them! They wear beautifully, non slip and soft soles just like my name brand ones and again I have to say the price is exceptionally reasonable, totally worth every penny! I’ve added pics side by side with my name brand shoe and these so you can see for yourselves how much they look alike.. I’ve been wearing them for a few days now, both inside and outside, they’re that great!" —crystal

"Love these so much I’m ordering a second pair in another color. They have a nice platform height. I’m petite, and these give me the perfect amount of height to keep my pants just a tiny bit above the floor. They are warm, but not hot, and they’re comfortable. The inside is firm, but it’s not hard, and the lining still keeps a soft layer over the firm base. I’ve had them a year, and they are still in perfect condition. I did spray them with a water protector prior to first wear. They have the slightest lip in the back that is just enough to keep the shoes on without making you use your toes to fight to keep them on as you walk. Despite the fuzzy inside, they don’t make your feet stinky." —JenJen
