Mike Johnson Once Again Makes The Case For Democrats Without Seeming To Realize It

House Speaker Mike Johnson seems very worried about the Republican Party losing the midterm elections next month. So why does the Louisiana Republican keep saying things that make the Democrats look good? During an interview Tuesday on Fox News, Johnson openly expressed fear about what might happen to the world as we know it if those danged Democrats take over the House and Senate. Polls suggest a blue wave is possible, especially given Donald Trump’s record-low poll numbers. Obviously, if the Democrats win the House majority in the midterms, Johnson will be out as speaker. Although he suggested last week he’d be OK going back to Louisiana and starting “a lawn business” if the GOP loses control of the chamber, his comments on Fox News show he still has hopes of remaining in power. Johnson explained that if Democrats take over the U.S. House and Senate, they would likely launch numerous investigations of Trump and those connected with him. “They also want to go after — they want to do lawfare on steroids,” he told host Dana Perino. “If this group took over ― heaven forbid, Dana! ― they would turn every committee of Congress into an investigative body. They would spend every day investigating the president, the first family, the Cabinet, donors to the party, leaders in business and industry.” “It would roil the markets, and it would empower our enemies around the world at the worst possible time,” he added. Perino noted that Democrats are already talking in their campaigns about their plans to investigate the Trump family and other high-ranking Republicans. A survey released last month found that 60% of voters believe Trump has brought more corruption to Washington. Many people felt that Johnson’s push for Republicans actually sounded more like a Democratic Party campaign ad. Mike Johnson continues to campaign for the Democratic Party https://t.co/valL4rBnbP Maybe if Mike had something to actually run on he wouldn’t need to read this exact same script every day on Fox. https://t.co/jN9QuVLjZJ I think Democratic turnout is already going to be off the charts so it really isn't necessary for Johnson to provide further assistance but we appreciate it. https://t.co/gIq1Z5Q2pX Hilarious. The whole administration is on the take — corruption on a post-Soviet level — but the ambassador to Greece has to take the fall.Trump Has Asked Kimberly Guilfoyle to Resign, White House Says https://t.co/XCfQFkqRRR via @NYTimes So our enemies are not emboldened right now with Trump? 🤷🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️😅 https://t.co/JDFtrnReYX I love that @SpeakerJohnson keeps giving reasons for REPUBLICANS to vote for DEMOCRATS!!He's basically saying, if you love AMERICA ...vote DEMOCRAT! https://t.co/pd6bqmz6N3 This isn’t the first time Johnson has stepped on a rake regarding the midterms. Last month, he was mocked for campaigning for Democrats when he tried to promote the Republican Party by telling CNBC, “What we would do in the next two years is exactly what we have been doing already.” By entering your email and clicking Sign Up, you're agreeing to let us send you customized marketing messages about us and our advertising partners.
