‘Final Destination’ Star Toys With Fate By Trying To Predict His Own Death

Hey, he could just come back as “Caper” — again. Devon Sawa, the ’90s heartthrob who starred in 2000’s “Final Destination,” may have just jinxed himself by making a bold prediction about his own death …and airplanes. “Here’s my thought,” Sawa recently told The Daily Beast’s “Obsessed” podcast. “The chances of me doing a movie about dying in an airplane and then actually dying in an airplane would be pretty slim. So I think that I’m safe. I don’t think it could happen. It would be too perfect.” In the first film of the franchise, Sawa’s character, a high schooler named Alex Browning, has a premonition about his plane exploding right before it’s about to take off for a class field trip to Paris. In his panic, he and a few others from his school stay behind. The plane does explode, but because Alex and the others dodged their fate, Death hunts them and plucks them off one by one in a series of over-the-top and seemingly accidental mishaps. Alex is the only one to survive by the end of the first “Final Destination” movie, and Sawa has expressed interest in returning to the franchise. He told People last year he would “for sure return” if “that [opportunity] ever came up.” Yet, it was revealed by Alex’s former girlfriend Clear Rivers (Ali Larter) in 2003’s “Final Destination 2” that Alex had died sometime between the events of the first and second films. Redditors have also claimed Alex was killed off by a falling brick in an end credits scene in one of the films. Whatever Sawa’s destiny shall be — career or, uh, death wise — “Obsessed” couldn’t help but point out that if he did die in a plane crash, “TMZ would have a field day.” “Right?” Sawa shot back. “And I’m not giving them that joy.” Head over to The Daily Beast and the “Obsessed” podcast for more.
