White House Responds To Jack Smith’s ‘No Kings’ T-Shirt At Concert

White House communications director Steven Cheung called Jack Smith a “scumbag” on Monday for wearing a “No Kings” T-shirt to a Maryland concert over the weekend. It costs $50 on a Bruce Springsteen merch site ― perhaps well worth it for Smith if he was making a statement. Smith touched a nerve in at least one part of the White House with his fashion choice at the Power to the People event, featuring Springsteen. Smith’s black tee bore the name of Springsteen’s tour, “Land of Hope & Dreams,” with “No Kings” underneath. The “No Kings” movement to protest Trump has fueled nationwide demonstrations. Cheung lashed out in customary fashion. “Jack Smith is a scumbag who was the partisan attack rat for Democrats who weaponized the justice system against President Trump for political purposes,” he wrote on X. “Don’t think they won’t go after innocent Americans again if they get their way.” Smith, who oversaw the federal election interference and classified documents cases against Trump, was grilled at a Senate hearing last week. But unforced errors by Republican senators from Missouri grabbed the headlines. Sen. Eric Schmitt accused Smith of perjury but face-planted instead. After the lawmaker claimed Smith was in Atlanta at a moment he denied being there, the truth emerged. Smith not only didn’t attend an Atlanta Hawks game, as Schmitt suggested, but was watching a college women’s game in Maryland involving the Iowa Hawkeyes. Schmitt apparently had confused the two teams. Sen. Josh Hawley dunked on himself later that day. In trying to establish Smith’s overreach in the classified-documents investigation of Trump, Hawley said Smith went through Melania Trump’s “personal drawers” during a federal raid of Mar-a-Lago. But Smith was appointed special counsel months after the Aug. 8, 2022, FBI search.
