Former “Grey’s Anatomy” star Isaiah Washington is mourning the loss of his wife and the mother of his children.

“Yes…the rumors are true. My dear wife of 29 years collapsed suddenly on May 31, 2025 and passed away on June 9, 2025,” the actor said of his late wife, Jenisa, in an emotional Instagram post shared Sunday.

“It came as a huge shock to me and our entire family. She succumbed to a massive hemorrhagic stroke and never recovered,” he said before asking followers to pay attention to their health.

“Listen, y’all…some headaches are not just headaches or migraines, they can be much worse and a warning sign. Get a brain scan if you can and take those headaches seriously,” he said.

Washington then explained why he’d waited so long to publicly announce his wife’s death.

“She has been gone 16 months now, but she left 3 incredibly amazing children behind to continue her legacy,” he said. “I don’t know if this is an appropriate post, because Jenisa Washington was extremely private, but I guess I just have to be reprimanded from her on the other side.”

The couple, who were together for nearly three decades, have three children: Isaiah, Tyme and Iman.

Washington was fired from “Grey’s Anatomy” after he uttered an anti-gay slur backstage at the 2007 Golden Globes. He later described the consequences to HuffPost.

“After the incident at the Golden Globes, everything just fell apart. I lost everything. I couldn’t afford to have an agent ... I couldn’t afford to have a publicist ... I couldn’t afford to continue,” Washington said at the time.

He said the forced break from acting led him to become “a better husband, a better father and a better artist.”

Washington announced his retirement from acting in 2023.

“It is with a heavy heart and a sense of relief that I am announcing my early retirement from the entertainment industry today,” he wrote. “Those who have been Following/Witnessing my journey here on Twatter [sic] since 2011 all know that I have fought the good fight, but it seems that the haters, provocateurs and the Useful Idiots have won.”

But according to a recent Instagram post, it seems that Washington might be returning to the big screen soon.
