“Daily Show” correspondent Jordan Klepper on Wednesday mercilessly tore into Sen. Eric Schmitt’s (R-Mo.) Hawkeyes/Hawks mix-up during former special counsel Jack Smith’s testimony before the Senate on Tuesday.

Klepper was all-too-happy to describe how the monumental blunder played out in real time, focusing on how each GOP senator was so excited to finally have one of President Donald Trump’s perceived enemies ensnared in their trap.

“And guys, just watch how excited he was to spring this trap,” Klepper said before playing a clip of the interaction between Schmitt and Smith.

“Look at that smirk, you know? He’s got that Chris Hansen swagger. You see how this looks, don’t you?” Klepper said of Schmitt’s demeanor, referencing the “To Catch A Predator” host’s oft-repeated line. “He probably told his wife, ‘Make sure to watch me on TV today, honey.’”

Klepper added that he hates to “see their bubble get popped.”

“Let’s see their bubble get popped,” Klepper said before playing a clip of Smith explaining that he was at an Iowa Hawkeyes women’s basketball game, not an Atlanta Hawks NBA game, as Schmitt had claimed.

“I mean, I don’t want to say you’re embarrassing your Republican colleague, Sen. Schmitt, but look at Sen. Katie Britt’s face while your case falls apart,” Klepper said before showing a clip of the Alabama senator’s befuddled face.
