Scott Jennings Gives Jaw-Dropping Defense For Trump's Tax-Paid 'Propaganda' Ads

Scott Jennings gave what looked like an audition to be White House press secretary Monday on CNN ― perhaps because he’s reportedly in the running for the job. The news network’s Republican heel was asked by “The Source” host Kaitlan Collins if he was “cool” with Trump’s overtly political ads that fearmonger about communists ― and yet were paid for by U.S. taxpayers. One former ethics chief called it “propaganda” worthy of impeachment. “The White House offered an assessment that it was making people feel good about America and trying to push back against ideologies that would defeat America,” Jennings said. “It’s a perfectly reasonable message.” “OK, I’m still not sure what the public service announcement was,” Collins shot back. “I mean, warning against communism sounds like a public service to me,” Jennings replied. “We got one whole political party that’s falling in love with it. I think they need to be warned, Kaitlan.” Collins and Jennings lightly sparred about Trump’s relationship with communist Chinese leader Xi Jinping and New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, whom Trump has called a “communist.” But commentator Ashley Allison got in the last word. “Using taxpayer dollars for a political ad, kicking the press out because you don’t like their coverage ― those are more communist-like behaviors than just calling people communists,” she told Jennings. Progressive Democratic victories in the primaries, including some by people affiliated with the Democratic Socialists of America, spurred Republicans to stoke concerns over “communists” infiltrating politics to scare voters away from Democrats before the midterm elections.
