Aldi Dropped 7 New Prepared Meals, And I Was The First To Try Them — Here's My Review

The prepared meals you’ve been waiting for on your busy weeknights. As a Tasty contributor, I write test-driven stories about grocery store staples, viral recipes, and cozy comfort foods, focusing on what’s actually worth making at home. The meals begin hitting shelves in early October and will be available nationwide by January 2027. Aldi also plans to rotate the meals every month starting next year. The two family-size meals — Chicken and Bacon Mac and Cheese and the Meat Lovers Pizza Bake — weren’t available for me to taste ahead of the launch, so I’m not including them in my ranking, but I’ll definitely be keeping an eye out for both once they hit my local Aldi. Note: These meals were provided to me for free by Aldi, but all opinions are my own. Overall Thoughts: What I liked most about this one was that it reminded me of something I’d pick up for lunch from a local takeout spot rather than a typical ready-made meal. The seasoned chicken breast and basmati rice make up the base, while the black beans, roasted bell peppers, cabbage, and onions give it plenty of texture and make it feel like a complete meal. I love how the creamy chipotle sauce, which is made with chipotle peppers, lemon juice, garlic, and chili powder, ties everything together without overpowering the other ingredients. This is one I’d happily grab at the beginning of the week and keep in the fridge for a quick lunch when I don’t have time to make something myself. Overall Thoughts: This one had a really lovely flavor and texture overall. The roasted tandoori chicken thighs are served with basmati rice, tomatoes, onions, garlic, and ginger, and the sauce is a standout. It’s made with cream, tomato puree, butter, tandoori paste, spices, garlic, and ginger, so it has plenty of flavor but is still nice and balanced. This would be great for an easy lunch, but I could also see myself grabbing a couple and turning them into a weeknight dinner with some warm naan and a side salad or roasted veggies. Overall Thoughts: For something as simple as fettuccine Alfredo, the quality of the pasta and sauce really matters, and both stood out to me here. The fettuccine is sourced from Italy and made with 100% Italian durum, which the pasta supplier mills on-site for the freshest semolina, without any unnecessary enrichments. It gives the pasta a delightful texture and helps the whole dish taste pure and homemade. The chicken breast and fettuccine are paired with onions and garlic, and I appreciated how the Alfredo sauce is rich and creamy without feeling overly heavy, with enough of it to coat the pasta evenly. At under $6, this felt like a steal for a quick lunch or dinner. Overall Thoughts: We love Bolognese in our house. If you’ve read any of my pasta articles, you know I make turkey Bolognese often, while my husband’s Italian family makes the real deal with beef. So, needless to say, I had some pretty delicious Bolognese to compare this one to. This version combines seasoned ground beef with spaghetti in a rich tomato Bolognese sauce with onions, carrots, celery, garlic, and Italian herbs. It uses the same Italian-sourced pasta as the fettuccine Alfredo, and once it was heated up and transferred to a bowl, it tasted like something that could have been simmering away in the kitchen for hours. The sauce has that slow-cooked flavor I want from a Bolognese, and there is plenty of it to coat the spaghetti. Overall, I was a big fan. I’d definitely buy this one again and keep it on hand for nights when I want something comforting without having to make a pot of Bolognese myself. Overall Thoughts: This one took my number-one spot for a few reasons, starting with the brisket itself. The beef is actually smoked, and you can even see the smoke ring along the edge of the meat. It was super tender with a smoky flavor that tasted more like something I’d ordered at a restaurant than heated up at home. Now, let’s talk about that white mac and cheese, made with white cheddar and creamy formaggio, which is sensational on its own. But beyond that, I loved how it melded with the BBQ sauce in every bite. The roasted bell peppers and onions were another nice touch. To be honest, I’m not much of a beef eater. I might have it once every few months, and I almost never cook it at home, so I certainly wasn’t expecting beef to land in both my first- and second-place spots. For under $8, the quality of the brisket, creamy mac and cheese, and smoky BBQ sauce pushed this already-prepped wonder into my number-one spot.
