I Just Turned 30, And These Are The 17 Things I REALLY Wish I'd Done In My 20s

This beauty treatment is non-negotiable!!!!!!! I'm a Toronto girl living on Australia's Gold Coast, where I write about sex, love, sports, pop culture, and everything in between—all while somehow surviving law school. I loved my 20s, but I don't think I would ever go back. I was a whole mess. Honestly, figuring it out together was half the fun. Physio and chiropractor appointments get expensive. By the big age of 30, my body doesn’t bounce back like it used to. I hurt my wrist recently, and apparently it just... stays hurt now. Rude. Muscle becomes increasingly important as you age, and apparently, you can start gradually losing it in your 30s. Excuse me??? I just got here. According to girl math, I’m actually saving money. I grind my teeth so much when I sleep that they’ve actually started wearing down and curving inward. PLEASE don't rush into veneers. Once your natural tooth structure is gone, you can't exactly ask for it back. When you think about it, anyone can go online, say something with enough confidence, and suddenly it sounds credible. Plus, reading gives you something to talk about. Some of the best conversations I’ve had started with, "I read this thing in a book…" If a trend doesn't work for you, don't force it. It too shall pass. I’ve had the same black leggings for 15 years, and they’re still one of my most-worn items. I’ve only replaced them once...and the warranty covered it for free. I’ve met people in their late 20s and early 30s who’ve never really had close friendships, and you can tell they’ve missed out on certain lessons that friendships teach you. I remember living in a run-down place and not realizing how much it was affecting my mental health until I left... Rent was $525 a month, though. 😵💫 Can you tell I'm a reformed party girl? :p My friends and I have a rule: all loose change and cash will be donated!!! Right now, as a law student, I volunteer at a community law clinic that provides free legal advice to locals. My eczema got so bad that I had patches all over my body that looked like cheetah print. I still feel guilty paying for a car service sometimes, but if it cuts my travel time by two-thirds, it’s worth it, especially when I’m in a time crunch. Sometimes you’ll spend more during an eight-hour layover than you would’ve spent paying the extra $100 for a direct flight. I've changed my career several times, and I've never regretted it. Ever. At this point in my life, give me a good home-cooked meal over a restaurant or takeout any day. Let’s just say there was a time when I smoked like a chimney... Your friends love you, but sometimes they’re going to tell you what you want to hear. I think I went through five different therapists before I finally found the right one. By the time you’re 30, you might only see your parents and siblings a few dozen more times in your lifetime. Isn’t that crazy to think about? I almost cried writing this. My parents are back home in Canada while I’m in Australia, and I miss them more than I can put into words.
