Feral Girl Winter Has Arrived, So Put Down The Weighted Blanket And Get Ready To Be OUTSIDE

But this year, people seemingly want to do the exact opposite. Rather than hibernating until spring, TikTok is encouraging us to get outside, see our friends and, most importantly, have a bit of fun. We’ve had Hot Girl Summer (thanks, Meg), which moved into Brat Summer, Cuffing Season, Mob Wife Winter, the Office Siren movement and, of course, getting your steps in can’t just be that. It’s a Hot Girl Walk, apparently, dedicated to becoming mentally hotter. And it’s about to go head-to-head with Lock-In Season. There are going to be two types of people this winter: those breaking PBs and those splitting the G. They’ve decided that winter is no longer an excuse to disappear from society until March. They’re going out, dancing, seeing their friends, saying yes to plans, and generally behaving as though it’s still 22°C outside. An Indiana University study found that celebrations can boost feelings of social support when they involve gathering with others, sharing food or drinks, and intentionally celebrating a positive event or achievement. Previous research has also linked stronger social relationships with better health outcomes, including longer lives. "You’re outside yourself, and electronic music is really great at inducing it, which is why so many raves and so many parties and even therapeutic uses of music involve the repetitiveness," he shared. "That repetition allows you to enter a meditative state, and you can close off the inner chatter of your brain and the inner dialogue and just be, and when you can relax into that state of here and now, that’s when the trance can come." Orrrrr, we could simply do both. It's about balance, after all. Additional thumbnail photo credits: Goodboy Picture Company (iStock)/Mariana Hernández Castro (Pexels)
